New Build, Killer budget

That will end up more expensive than you think, plus warranty is void on any card you buy off ebay.

The 5870 has alot of distinct advantages over the 295, the 295 does perform better in some games, however in games that do not scale well in SLI the 5870 will always perform better, you can crossfire with another one/two/three down the road relatively easily, the card overclocks better, and also the big one.... DX11 support on the 5870 that the 295 does not have.

just out of curiousity what would you use 5 monitors for?

What, you never have 5 windows open at the same time? :P I answered that question briefly here

Ya... Your right. I looked at some reviews again and again, and I'm really satisfied with the 5870. It's the best price/performance ratio by quite a bit.

idk ive run two but i dont think i would ever work on 5 at the same time and if i did i would just minimize but thats just me :P

would also recommend the hd 5870. great performance. crossfire scales well (i think). dx11. unless you want to wait for the fermi cards i would go with the hd 5870. but the fermi cards could be ridiculously overpriced and you would end up with the 5870 anyway... your choice there. also, you are lucky that you have this budget! what i would give for $2000 put towards a computer...

I heard that Yate Loon make good fans.

EDIT: What about a Scythe? I used to hear about the S-FLEX series a while back, still good? Hey, Fluid Dynamic Bearing
Yate's are nice fans. The Scythe ultra kaze's are a bit loud, but if you get a fan controller for them they work well with these sort of heatsinks due to their high static pressure. The S-Flex fans i am not really a fan of personally, but the scythe slipstreams are nice as well.
It looks like the 5870 eyefinity 6 edition is officialy to be released March 11.

Worth the wait then imho, and possibly by then fermi may even be out(doubtful, but it may..)

Get the 3000rpm fans if you can afford a fan controller alongside it, that way if you want lower temps for overclocking runs and whatnot you can turn them up;)

As far as case fans, get some of the higher speed slipstreams imho:

I'm not to worried about the case fans. I keep the side panel off my PC. It's in a high place, out of the way of dust and accidental damage. Would you still recommend I get those high speed fans?

The other thing I was thinking is to use the motherboards fans headers to control their speed. If that don't work I could get a fan controller later.

Generally, i dont recommend running UK's off the fan headers, because most of the time motherboard manufacturers dont give out specs on what the fans headers are rated for amperage wise.

Plus, when your talking the same price for the higher speed fans, they usually run quieter at the same speed of a 2000rpm model, as they are binned higher to spin at 3000rpm in the first place.
