Athalon ll vs. Phenom ll

Why not get the sunbeam core contact? It's at the top of the list there, one of the best air coolers there is-

That sunbeam looks ok to me but I have been kinda weary about the heatsinks that have a fan that is not bolted on. It seems like this one is just held on with a wire! Seems sketchy to me. I know that they work, I am just not not a fan of it.

I forgot to give you a price range for this (not to mention that I think that I hijacked my own thread) but I am looking for a heatsink and fan that will work with the am3 cpu socket. I like the 120mm fan idea but it does not have to be. my cpu is right next to my exhaust fan and right under my intake fan, both of which are 120mm. I might have better luck with a heasink that can have a 120 bolted on later so I can buy a fan of my choice. I was hoping for around $30 possible $40 if it comes with a fan. That might be a stretch but I know that cooling comes before price when you want to oc.

oh and thanks for all of the replies and links. I am kinda new at all of this.

I took a look at it and I just have one more question about how it will perform. it has the external fan controller but would I have to use it? I have my pc under a desk and I don't want to have to crawl under it just to quiet my pc. i see that it has a 3 pin controller and it looks like I can either plug that into the motherboard, or into the fan controller and do it manually.

No you don't have to use it, just hook the connector to the standard CPU connector on the motherboard. The reason it comes with the controller is because it's only a 3 pin connector. Typically CPU fans are 4 pins, and you can adjust the speed yourself....with a 3 pin that just means it runs full speed all the time. It's not to worry though, it's a quiet fan even at full blast.

sounds good. would a 3/4 pin adapter fix the problem with it running at full blast all the time?

I would say go with Phenom II this is new line for CPU, it consists of quad core and triple core processors and the Phenom ll enjoys a performance level in between the Core 2 Quad and the Core i7 at an affordable price.
