Sick of HP

Hello everyone,

So at this point in time I own an HP m9350f, it has been an OK machine but I have had too many issues with it. The first graphics card that was in it failed and was replaced under warranty, the PSU just recently failed and I had to replace it myself, and now for the second time the graphics card has overheated and failed (the graphics card is an nVidia GeForce 9800 GT, which currently has a class action lawsuit about nVidia distributing defective graphics cards...) Anyways, I now need to replace the GPU again and am going to buy something of my choosing.

My question to all of you knowledgeable people is would I be able to use the parts from my HP m9350f PC to build my own computer? The main reason I would like to do this is because the current case has very poor airflow and cord management, so I would like to buy a different case that resolves these issues and use many of the parts I currently have.

In the m9350f there is:

500w OCZ PSU
Asus M2N78-LA motherboard
AMD Phenom 9850 x4
6GB DDR2
750 GB SATA
Lightscribe SATA Drive
and there's a TV Tuner, the audio stuff, and a wireless card
at this point there is no GPU but I will be getting one soon.

I am wondering if I can basically just disassemble this PC and put it all back together in a better case with better cooling capabilities. I have never built a computer before but I have replaced certain parts in my own. So let me know what you guys think about this idea and if you think I will encounter any major issues.

Thanks for the help!

sure you can and since that motherboard is a micro ATX board you can buy either an ATX or a micro ATX case. The only incompatibility is using an ATX motherboard in a micro ATX case. You'll probably have to buy an extra case fan or two depending on what the case comes with and what your HP has.

I think there was only one case fan in the HP, so far the new cases I've been looking at all come with at least one case fan so I should be ok there. Thanks for the help konsole.

Damn dude, that's really too bad about your computer. I have the exact same one, but have been lucky-no issues.

Since I joined this forum, I have been bitten by the bug to build one. Now I just need to see if I can sell mine.

Best of luck...

If you ever need a computer, don't buy one! come here, give us your budget, we can give you links to all the parts and you can build it yourself. it's a great learning experience!

I would buy these to make everything work:

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...129066&cm_re=antec_300-_-11-129-066-_-Product

Graphics: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161319&cm_re=5670-_-14-161-319-_-Product (as good as 9800gt but uses less power, produces less heat, newer technology and features. And the cooler on this card is EPICALLY quiet)

EDIT: good move on getting a decent PSU! Cheapies never last, i know from experience! ;)

Get a better casequality PSU and new graphic card.
your motherboard is M2N78-LA, it has onboard graphic. you should try if you can turn on the PC first such that those component are the only stuff you need to replace.

Thanks wag, I'd sell that thing as soon as you can! Just kidding, I know they work out great for some, but just not for me.

So you're saying I should disconnect my 9800 GT from the mobo and then turn it on and see if everything else starts up and runs okay with the onboard graphics card? That way I'd know that it's just the graphics card that needs replacing?

Yes, that is what I mean. Just want to make sure you only blow the video card due to overheating.
