I have the following processor in my Dell E510, looking to upgrade. Thinking about getting into some gaming. What should I look at?

Processor,805,2.66,2MB,PentiumD Smithfield

Whats your budget?
What games do you intend to play?
Whats your current system specs?

Id recommend going Quad core if your budget can stretch to it...

I think thats the cheapest Quad on Newegg .

You will need a graphics card if you want to game, that might also mean you need a new Power supply aswell but until we know the rest of your system specs..............

If you have that money and willing to spend....dont spend it on upgrading that system above,Do a complete new system it will be much better.

If he has $1500 why bother with an I5? Get an I7 920.

And seriously, an H55 board? No offense but what the hell!

I would personally go for a gtx470 rather than a 5850, but whatever.
So just replace the CPU and mobo with-

I7 920-

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202&cm_re=I7_920-_-19-115-202-_-Product

And X58 extreme motherboard-

Also, the H50 cpu cooler is not any better than good air cooling, and most of the time it's a real PITA to mount unless you have just the right setup. The xigmatek dark night would take him the 4ghz on air NO problem at all-

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029

And if he's just gaming, the cpu won't be any kind of bottleneck even at stock clocks...so even if he just wanted to overclock to 3.6ghz or so it would probably never see more than 50c.

Because it's Nvidia and not ATI.......haha. Nvidia cards have PhysX, which helps the CPU out with physic's calculations. They also have CUDA, if you are a folder than Nvidia cards are the only way to go. I've also personally been more impressed with Nvidia cards. I picked up a 5770 recently, but was very disappointed with it's performance compared to my old gtx260...which is what most people say the 5770 is equal in performance too. Sorry, but my overclocked 5770 only reached the same performance at my stock clocked gtx260. And of course, I had no PhysX or Cuda then either. Eyefinity is the only nice feature of ATI cards, and it used to be DX11 too...but now Nvidia finally released their DX11 cards as well, and the gtx470 is in between the performance of a 5850 and 5870 for a price thats closer to the 5850.

Apples to apples....One of the best brands for ATI is Sapphire and the best Nvidia is EVGA.

For $45 more, I would WAY rather have a gtx470 over a 5850.

Dude you got a real bug up your ass. I don't consider recommending an H55 board with an I5 750 help at all. So just cool your jets.

Im cool,....Anyway i didnt even say anything to you,I was responding to roridudes remark on me not having a life!

The reason i recommended an I5 setup and that board is the price, yes i could have done a I7 build but its totally Unnecessary and over the top...that build i mentioned is more than capable of maxing out any game he throws at it....and would have cash to spare.

FAIL comment....

Thats your excellent advice eh?

So yeah....roridudes and you 87dtna,If you have some sort of problem with me or my recommendations....fel free to take it up with a Moderator and let them settle the score.

i agree the x58 with the i7 920 would be a better option and at not so much more of a cost i would def choose that anyway as long as i could afford it

Of couse it would be better,But with a quick guess i doubt you would get an
i7,6gb of tripple channel ram and a 470 with the rest of those components i mentioned for $1500.

the build i put together came to $1,300 soo...

This will be my last reply to this thread so the "Moaning and stupid remarks" dont carry on., jmy2469 i hope you enjoy whatever you get :)
