Hey its been a while since i built a comp...i installed everything and it started up fine...but i cannot get a visual on the monitor.

How do i engage this? I forget how to. everything seems to be running fine. fans spinning, pumps running, etc etc.

Please help asap thanks!

Are you running onboard graphics or a video card? Try the onboard first. If it's a graphics card, does it take power? Is it hooked up? Is it properly seated? AFAIK, there is no special "trick" to get graphics running for POST/BIOS. If they're installed properly, you should have display.

Post back, and if you're still having problems, give us your hardware specs.

I am running a 5870 sapphire radeon. I have two six pins going into it. The fans spin. The six pins are off a 1000W Corsair PSU. They actually are 6+2 but i only have the 6 running into it.

The thing is seated right into the slot, you can see the gold pushed out meaning so.

I tried both PCI slots. Anything else? I could remember my old build did this to me too. It wouldn't fire up right away....HDs are bare, i dont even think they're formated. All parts from newegg.

Confirm your PC-Speaker/Buzzer is correctly connected to the board and see if you get any beeps. You also made no mentioning of your board or processor. Are you sure they are compatible (and don't require a BIOS update?) Confirm the board is installed correctly and isn't shorting out on anything. Remove everything but the CPU and PSU and see if you get any beeps (should get "beeeeeeep...beeeeeeep...etc.)

Is it possible that the graphics card was DOA? You don't have another you could test it with do you? I see you have no onboard video... kind of hard to tell...

All I know to do is to try the card in another (working) computer, and/or another "known-to-work" card in your computer. Also, the monitor is known to work right?

i have no other computer to try it in....all my friends use laptops...macs at that. Monitor is known to work. I am hooked up to it right now with the laptop. I dont know what else there is...

Looking like geek squad tomorrow. Ugh.

Links are dead, but specs are good enough. You either have a build issue, bad hardware, or (probably most likely) an out-of-date bios. It looks like the P6T added support for the i7 930 the beginning of this month (since revision 0904).

ah sorry about the links, dont know why they are dead...what do you think i should do? I cant access anything to work on it anyway....this is a headache. oof...

Links are dead because you probably copied them from another forum post :P As for what to do, there's really not much you can do if it's the bios without a compatible processor.

Yeah i did copy them. oops....so, you're saying the 930 isnt supported by my p6t? And because of this my bios wont read it?

Just a thought - before going to Geek Squad and paying an arm and a leg, I would call around to your local computer repair shops - one will likely let you bring your computer in and test it on their diagnostic boxes for free - or at least for really cheap (not more than $5).

Also, The_Other_One - how could he upgrade his board BIOS? All I know is to put another (supported) processor on the board, reapply the paste, heatsink and fan, boot it up, flash BIOS and then reinstall his new processor?

Is there an easier way?

BTW - a local computer repair shop might let you do all that at their shop for free or cheap too...

More like $50 where I work... Well to check out a whole system. Prices are less than that to check out individual components, but it may be worth it. If nothing else, they may be able to pop an older CPU in.

What you said is the only way. I'm surprised they haven't come out with alternative methods so a computer could still boot to a very basic bios flasher without a CPU...

Oh man this is going to be a long process i can tell...did not see this one coming.

I truely do not know what is wrong. Ive done this plenty of times but never ran into a problem like this...normally is is started up by now and im online....

I meant to come in and use their hardware and do it yourself. A lot of Mom and Pop computer shops are "cool like that". I don't know where astolt12 is from, but here in Corpus I'll bet there are 20 small-business computer shops. Maybe twice that many. One of them is bound to be alright with it. I knew a guy in Odessa that would let you come in and do whatever you needed to do, as long as you knew what you were doing, didn't get in the way of the employees or cause any problems otherwise.

astolt12,

I would definitely check the video card first. Much less hassle. If it's bad, RMA it.

I used to work in the oilfield. When someone would drill a dry well, you'd hear company men say "Well, that's why women and children don't drill wells."

So, I guess "That's why women and children don't build computers." ;)

I will...just i do not have any way of seeing if the video card is bad...I dont have a spare. I woulda already been all over that if that was the case no doubt.

I seemed to have backed myself into a corner with this one.

Eh, I do recall some places being like that. Heck I remember spending hours in a local shop doing things. Though where I work now, it is a larger shop (6 locations in NC) so I guess they're a bit more strict about what can be done. We can't loan out tools and customers aren't supposed to do work in the shop. It's think it's for safety in case they get hurt...I just follow the rules.

As for checking the video card, while that wouldn't be a bad idea, I'm nearly certain it's not the issue. If it were, you should get some kind of beeps from the system. A way you can usually check if your system is working or not is if the "lock" keys work. At some point while the system boots, you should be able to press your NUM/CAPS/SCROLL-lock buttons and have the lights come on. This should work with or without the video card. Its not guaranteed but usually pretty accurate :P
