Okay, now I need to know where to put the 2 sticks of 2gb in. There are four slots on the motherboard. Obviously they go in the pair of colored slots but which one? Does it matter?

Just buy a 2GB stick and put it in the computer, and then you should have 4GB. It's considered optimal to install RAM in sets, but as long as the RAM you have in the computer and the RAM you are going to buy are the same types, then it will work fine. Who told you otherwise? Someone who stood to gain if you bought more?

for running in dual channel they must be the same frequency, timings and power usage. It is generally advisable to get the exact same, for instance, you get a 2GB stick of corsair PC6400 5-5-5-18, get a second one

Well they only have to be capable of running at the same settings, you can put DDR3-1600 10-10-10 in with some DDR3-1333 7-7-7 as there will be a common setting both sticks will run at. Although you are right, it's preferable to have 2 identical sticks.
