hi peepz,
i would like to know if i change the mac address on my machine with command prompt, after reboot would it go back to its original or stay as i set it (new)?
cheers

You can't change your MAC address, it is hard coded in the NIC. The best you can do is "spoof" your MAC address.

If you replace the NIC you can change the MAC address though.

Why do you want to spoof it? Sounds like you are trying to bypass a security system, and no you do it via software tools so you would do it with in the OS itself.

While it's true, I would imagine most people who want to change their MAC want to change it to something specific ;)

Unless you are getting around a ban by MAC address on a forum or say your PS3's MAC gets banned

Well, a forum on the internet cannot ban a user on his mac address :)

Sometimes you actually use legit mac cloning on your home network

I think they can ban your cable modem's MAC address, not really your PCs MAC address.

I wasn't really going into the specifics of how it is used validly and invalidly, but I guess I did a bit

They cannot ban a modem's mac either. A mac address is only used to communicate on the local physical net you are connected to. So it doesn't get by your internet provider.
