Black friday exlcusive, need advice

It all really depends on how graphic the games you play are. The 4670 you should be able to play medium to high settings i would think on the higher end games. I played call of duty 4 on my hd3870 with no issues.

Place that GPU under any intense loads, your power supply will most likely pop. The power supplies put into those computers are pretty much as cheap as they can get by with.

The 520W i linked would easily power a 5770 and an entire system.
 
im still on the edge about the psu...will 520w be enough, it just doesnt sem like it. i think ill go witht 650w crosair.

I want to be ready for the amd phenom when i get a little extra cash. Which should be soon

yes, 520W will be enough. You whole system will probably only pull ~400W at most, the extra is so it isn't always under full load. The 520W Antec bbsk posted is a qulity unit and would be fine for the system you are thinking of building.

If you can fit the 650W Corais in your budget, go for it, but either are great units, the 650W will just give you better upgradability in future

Honestly you don't need anywhere near that much, that 520W will run any system short of a 5970/gtx295/gtx480 pretty much.

better to get more though and have room for upgrades without having to worry about upgrading the PSU too I reckon. It will power it, but not too much more, or atleast not much more that will give significant performance gain

Don't go as far as I did and get an 850W which is huge overkill (great offer though so wouldn't pass it ;)), but getting a 600-700W for headroom and future upgrades, I wouldn't say it is a bad idea
 
Somewhere down the line if you get some extra money replacing that 5400rpm hard drive with a 7200 would help a little.

Uh, unless he plans on going crossfireX in the future, 520W is plenty. 650W will handle most dual card rigs, let alone a single card setup. Heck, even a 400W corsair would quite easily power that rig. People overestimate their power needs way too much.

^ At bomber's suggestion I bought that exact same PSU from the same place. The disclaimer includes a 1 year warranty but sais it might have some minor cosmetic defect such as a scratch or something. I don't have all the components to hook mine up yet and get it running, but I can at least say that the thing looks absolutely brand new. There aren't any defects that I could see.

Corsair PSUs come with 5 year warranty. 5 years down the line, I don't think a gaming PC will be powered by a 400W PSU, or maybe not even 520W, even with power:performance always getting better and better. And in the future (as in, within 5 years) he may want to go SLI/CF, and if he pays the little extra now, he will not have to pay much close to as much extra if he decides to do so then.

I agree completely with the PC P&C that you found though, that is a hell of a price for such a unit, even if it is recertified

Any single card rigs in the future will run on a 520W...hell you can run some SLI/Crossfire setups on 520W. Its like the people saying you need a 650W to run a gtx480, when in reality, that 520W antec would do the job fine.
 
lol now i get all the response :P

I jumped the gun on the corsair 650w and the 5770 from newegg

hope to get a amd phenom in the future.
 
Thanks for the advise, heres how it went :cool:


Tested it on World in conflict, fps went from 1-3 on low to an average of 36 on very high (benchmark test)

(yeah I know the gpu isnt hooked to the psu in this pic)
