How much would you pay?

I have a HP xw8400 workstation, I want to upgrade it, but want to know if it is worth it. The maximum upgrade for this computer at this time would include:

32GB of ram
4 2TB hard drives
2 Xeon 5680 6 core 3.33 GHz CPUs
and an ATI Radeon HD 5970 Graphics Card

I am not exactly certain that that's the proper CPU, if anyone knows what kind of slot I have. I need a 64 bit CPU to use the RAM too. I know that the one that I have in the computer is 64 bit compatible.

I checked the prices for these parts and it could come up to $6000. Is what I have worth that much?
 
3 yen... jk if you can do that for $6,000 then YES. If you are getting that much comp you should get more than one video card in my opinion. Also I would have expected more along the lines of $8,000-$10,000. I'm also assuming you need this and you can justify $6,000? If so get it.

What exactly are you using this system for? Is it going to be a heavy duty server? If not, it's really overkill.
 
From what I can tell the HP xw8400 has a dual socket LGA 771 MB, (Specs), while the majority of the XEON processors fit sockets, 775, 1156, and 1366. The only XEON CPUs for that socket that Newegg sells is the 5130 Woodcrest @ $360, the E5410 Harpertown @ $300, and the X5460 Harpertown @ $1,270. The other thing is that it looks that the memory standard is DDR2 with a maximum speed of 667 Mhz.
Looking at PassMark CPU benchmarks it looks that the X5460 is roughly equal to a Q9650 in processing power and it would take a pair to equal the processing power of a single i7 970. I don't know much about servers and the XEON series, but I think you could build a faster machine for much less than the cost of upgrading the xw8400.

In the orriginal post I said "the maximum upgrade", this is definatly not what I need. I just went around the internet and looked up the most powerful parts for my computer, and wanted to know how far I should go.

I actulally plan on using the computer for 3D modeling, so the graphics card would be good, and the hard drive will probably need to be upgraded.

This is what I have now:
3GB of RAM
Xeon Woodcrest processor
2 hard drives that total ~500GB
and a nvidia QuadroFX 780 graphics card

What whould be more appropriate, I may use the computer for other things, since I don't plan on buying a new computer for a while. I want the fastest video processing that I can get while rendering video.

I paid $300 for the computer, but wanted to know if an upgrade like that would be worth it, or if I should get a new computer.

Since right now I don't realy plan on using it for anything more than video rendering, I want to know how much I should spend, and what I should get. In the future I may use the comuter as a server for my home, but I won't be doing anything like that now.
