Denial-of-service attack

My computer is constantly being denied access to web pages and always running slowly. Could this be a Denial-of-service attack. The web pages take longer to load and somtimes dont load at all. Can i detect if anyone is doing this and if so how can i do it?

I think this form of hacking should be more readily known as i read of many people with issues that to me sound like a Denial-of-service attack.
 
I would suspect malware before someone DDOS'ing you, unless you pissed off some 12 year old with a ping program who just happens to know your IP.
 
I have a full version of mcaffe fully installed and updated so malware would not be on my pc.

yeh i probably have pissed someone off is there any way to stop this?

That is not entirely true. "Traditional" anti-virus software does not always pick up infections. If you are concerned about security or viruses download Hijackthis, run a scan and make a post in the Computer Security section.

If you think Mcafee is going to protect you from becoming infected then you are worse off then you think. The malware that is out today can get past any antivirus program.

As said in the previous post, you will need to scan your system with malwarebytes/superantispyware and hijackthis and post the logs.

It is due to the nature of how they work. Malware is embedded in pirated applications, files, attachments, and a lot of times looks like legit software but really it is not.

A virus is a program that installs itself with out any user interaction. To be honest I think the era of the computer virus is gone and the future in malicious software is in malware.

malwarebytes, superantispyware and hijackthis are all 100% clean and do the job they are supposed to do, which is detection/removal of infections
 
Please follow these instructions carefully.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware


Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log

I need to see malwarebytes and hijackthis with running malwarebytes first and then hijackthis afterwards.

However, I do not see your hijackthis log, please repost both logs.
 
just had a quick read through the files just seems like a list of my programs and settings etc, how is this relevant?

hijackthis shows everything that is running/starting up on your computer and allows people to see what is running that could be causing the problem as a bit of malware or virus runs in the background it will show that it is running and where it is so it can be deleted.

BTW if you want your pc sorted out i strongly advise following the steps that johnb has laid out he'll get your pc sorted if you follow those steps.

You should've ran malwarebytes first and then did a hijackthis scan. Now you'll have to post a fresh hijackthis log after your malwarebytes log.

Also please just copy and paste the logs into your reply. You can see that i've edited your log post so that it shows it.

Ok, I don't see any issues in your log. The reason for file missing and unknown owner is because you are running a 64bit operating system so everything is normal.

You are having a denial of service for some other reason.

I would highly recommend downloading and running ccleaner to clean up old temporary internet and system files.
