Okay my friend wants to build a PC at home, I will be helping him, as it is his first built.
Will use it for Heavy Gaming.
Budget 900 USD to 1100 USD.
Would be good if comes under 900.

I doubt the old PSU would be up to par...coming from a 5-year-old system, it'd be better just to replace everything in the tower and use the old system for something semi-useful.

That should be a fairly balanced system, and will be much better at gaming than the i7 rig due to the GPU. It's also capable of upgrading to a 6-core processor, and adding a second GPU for crossfire.

I may be able to get it closer to $900 if some quality is dropped on the PSU, case, and RAM, but I think the extra is worth it...particularly with the PSU. The AX750 is an awesome unit, and few PSU's have a 7-year warranty.

Hey sorry for not mentioning this above, but I won't be buying from newegg, as it does not ship outside U.S. I just used newegg links as it provides good details of parts specs and probable price, so I won't be having any combo deals on parts and no discount. I will be buying those parts directly from the manufacturer using some help from its local dealer.
I like the AMD processor you mentioned, but can you suggest a different GPU(to lower down the total cost).
What PSU do you recommend or suggest for the i7 rig?
 
Ah, alright

If the price still needs to go down on the GPU, a Geforce GTX 460 or Radeon HD 6850/6870 would be ok. I'd recommend the Radeon for an AMD build since you can't SLI, but either would be fine on an i7 rig.

I'm pretty sure that the memory will not be compatible, the Sabertooth is 3-channel
 
excellent choice. Yes the monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers will work, but it would be more worth it with a new monitor, especially if yours isn't HD. also if the PSU is five years old it may not be powerful enough so make sure to see what watts all your stuff requires.
 
I cancelled all my plans for the parts, I am waiting for sandy bridge to come out.

How do I determine which PSU is good for the system? and will the old monitor handle the display? Its also 6 years old its an LG 700E monitor.

What about the keyboard, mouse, speakers? They are 6 years old too :(
But work very good. Speaker is artis and keyboard-mouse logitech.

Hmm, but the number of slots mentioned in the mobo specs are 6.

^ yeah, two sets of tri-channel memory. Most people with X58 rigs like to run tri-channel for the extra bandwidth, but it WILL work with only dual channel. Considering the price difference, though, I'd go ahead and grab a 3x2GB or 2x4GB kit. That dominator kit is way too expensive anyway...

Maximum resolution on that monitor is 1280x1024. For video/image editing, you're going to want something better. Here's a decent 1080p one:

A good power supply typically would be about 150% of your system's maximum power draw, to allow for an upgrades, overclocking, capacitor aging, etc. In your case, I'd grab something in the 650-700W range, to allow for anything you may want to do in the future.


edit: By the way, apart from a few somewhat rare Nvidia ones, you don't buy Nvidia or ATI(now AMD) branded cards...that's not how it works. AMD/Nvidia manufacture the chip itself, and other companies (the ones with their brand on the card) complete the process. And actually, they don't even directly manufacture the chips...they just design them and pay companies like Global Foundries or TSMC to make them.

I'd wait 2 more weeks (11 days) until the Sandy Bridge platform is released, as prices on current line ups will drop and you will either get current listed parts cheaper or be able to afford a Sandy Bridge based build.

Also yay! I am surely waiting for Sandy Bridge, Hopefully if the i7-2600 is cheaper than 350 then I will surely grab it, Don't know much about the motherboard.
 
Any idea whats the diff between the 2600 and the 2600K? Both have same speed and no. of cores.
