I know this is an pretty sad card, but can I overclock it coniderably? I read something somewhere about unlocking something?

Not sure about it overclocking seeing that its a onboard gpu, but quit honestly, its not worth it bro...

I am not sure what you are talking about because it is not an on board GPU. He has a 6200 in a pci card form.
Yes, you can overclock the card, but truth be told when i had an x1550 pci card I noticed no difference. If you did so the results would not be worth the potential risks.

even with an AGP or PCIe card the OC gains are negligable, I had one OC'd to 450core, 700mem from 350/500 and noticed about a 1% gain in games, and that was AGP, PCI your running on a 33mhz Bus not 2100mhz like AGP/PCIe x16 so your already severly limited, belive it or not you will see no advantage with an OC, your card already runs about as a good as a GeforceFX5200 AGP card does because it is PCI. Best Advice if you can get a PCIe or AGP card depending on the motherboard.

I have an AGP card, but my mobo doesn't support it. The card is also an nvidia 6200 with 512mb DDR2 ram. Do you think it's worth a new mobo?

id say its time for a PCIe card, dual core and board. If budget is limited you could go with say an Athlon II X2, 780G mobo for now, the IGP of the 780G will be significantly faster than a 6200PCI

Athlon II X2 250 $59.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103903

Jetway JMA3-785GP-LF $59.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813153155

GeIL Value 2gb DDR3 1333 $24.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144455

total $144.97 + shipping

And you will notice about 200% gain in games and about 300-400% gain in multimedia

You can buy another stick of the DDR2 to get dual channel though it equals about 7% preformance when its 100% utilized but normally 3-4% loss without it, and most users will never notice the loss of dual channel

Having owned this card, one of the good things you can do is open up pixel pipelines, which on many (not all) 6200's are software rather than hard cut on the gpu. The 6200 has 4 active pixel pipes, the 6600 has 8.

The core of the 6200 is the same as the one of the 6600 (NV43),so theirs a softmod to unlock those 4 extra pipelines for it! This means that using RivaTuner you can unlock pixel pipes and improve performance massively.

Lets start with installing Rivatuner from here
Run it
Select PowerUser
Click on "NV43 A2 4x1, 3 VP" and choose the first pictogram after that
Go to NVStrap and choose under "active pixel pipelines numbers" 8

If that doesn't work, you are better off with a new machine.

Do not get jetway, they are not good.
If you you can build new and have full atx go for

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007625 600007943&IsNodeId=1&name=AM3

ASROCK 59.99

Or m-Atx

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128455

54.99 after rebate (gigabyte btw)

For cpu since you are on a serious budget, trust me i know the feeling.

Sempron 140 2.7 Ghz

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103698&cm_re=sempron-_-19-103-698-_-Product

this is actually an athlon II die with a core locked so you had have a chance of getting a dual core cheap, and from what i hear it is a pretty good chance. Either way i would imagine it will perform better than your p4

Ram the above link will be good

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231252

this is also good 22.99

total 119.97, you can go with 1GB of ram and save another 10 if you need it.

I use jetway in alot of builds for clients rock solid stable at default settings, never once had a complaint. I also used to build with ECS for the lower end but there Quality dropped off to low to where they are far to unstable, but jetway is fine. As for the Sempron 140, if you must its ok, but your not guranteed a 2nd core, ever, its simply safer and smarter to go for an Athlon II X2 over the Sempron.

He is on a budget here, and like i said jetway is rock solid just don't try to OC, I do use them in system builds have for the last 6 months not one system returned for repair for a bad motherboard, been returned for virus, never faulty hardware. ASrocks though in my experince is like playing Russian Roulette you might get lucky but your taking a huge risk because for every person with one good board 3 others have issues.

I chose asrock due to recent conversation i had with another member on here who has real good reason to trust them, either way why would you put money on a jetway board when you can spend almost the same money and get a asus or gigabyte? especially when you you say you cant oc on jetway but you can quite easily on these boards.
The idea with the sempron is to save money and since the op only asked about oc'ing a 6200 i thought it best to get it as cheap as possible.
I beileve that there is around a 70% success rate at unlocking cores and either way it will prob be equal to the p4 setup.

70% is better than what he has now. I think if the OP wants a new system, he should state the following:

1. Budget
2. Main uses (e.g. gaming, video)
3. Monitor resolution
4. Any other considerations

Otherwise, its wasted money.

well depends Jeyway's value based boards like the one linked are cheaper than similar ASUS and Gigabyte boards, and I don't trust ASUS anymore ive had to many defective systems come in, they where good back in 939/AM2 but they lost it with AM2+. All I carry is Jetway (replaced ECS for value based boards), Gigabyte, MSI, and Intel branded boards for Corprate customers

Hi guys, pls don't hijack the thread. A discussion as to your individual approval of different brands is fine, in another thread. We haven't even got to that point though in this one.

am3 is the better choice, do you already have ddr3? id drop to a sempron 140 and hope you can unlock it and get a better mobo

Will the mobo effect the speed of the computer? I have no DDR3 ram now. Isn't that sempron 140 allittle weak? 2.8ghz single core is what I already have in my P4.

Please give us the above info. This will allow us to look at what you already have, what you can afford and where the proportionate amount of money should be spent. Otherwise, you will get an unbalanced system, or one that is balanced with an underpowered PSU.

I have the computer in my sig. It has a lame-o, ancient case, but I can live with it looking ugly. I have a 500watt power supply.

for the motherboard/cpu I don't want to go too over $100

I just want to get the best I can with that.

I can use my existing HDDs and get one later

I like AMD Athlon II X2 240 because of the price, upgradeability and a good motherboard selection

I play games, but I'm not a gamer. Plus, many of the games I play are outdated. I would like to play decent new-ish games. Nothing real fancy, but I want things alot better than my PCI geforce6200.

I think I would be able to shell out no more than 60 bucks for a video card. (Lower is better for this)
