Putting components together

Memory - It was green, so I'm going to assume I'm okay. Going to get the PSU installed next, as I just finished getting the mobo inside.

Attempting to connect the SATA cables and anything else I may have missed. The above picture is still pretty much how my computer looks, though the 24pin connector is plugged in, as well as the two 6-pin PCI-E connectors to the GPU.

To confirm, this is a SATA cable, correct?

It doesn't seem to fit into both my HDD and OD. It goes in very slightly, but no click to confirm it's all the way in, and the lightest of tugs pulls it out. Do I need to apply a lot of pressure to get this in?

They can require a bit of pressure to get on. Ususally a tug is needed to take'em off..
 
Bottom is SATA, top is PCIe...yep. Like Benny said, they're usually a pretty tight fit...the SATA power cables are the worst ones of the bunch unless you come across some crappy molex connectors.

Make sure you've got it the right way 'round. If you look, the hole has a little "L" shaped thing on one end...the HDD has a piece to match. The SATA data cable is similar, and can be equally non-compliant. :/

Hey Red Love, how is that assembly going? I am getting my parts today and will be putting together a lot of the similar pieces. Well, the motherboard and CPU at least. Just wanted to see how it went!

Not sure what I still need to put together. Just tried to get the computer on, no go. I'm sure I'm forgetting things, and I'm still not even sure how to connect the fans from the case into the PSU/mobo/etc, wondering if that needs to get connected with something modular?

So far, I have plugged in the 24pin cable, the two SATA power/data cables (though I'm not sure if it's in the right spot on the mobo), the power switch/reset/LED - and +, the 8 pin connector to the mobo, and something that says HD AUDIO I connected to the front panel audio switch (not sure if that's where it goes, either).

I'm still left with one large 4/8 pin connector that I don't seem to be able to find a place for, among other things.
 
Are you sure the power switch is hooked up right? Those things are easy to hook up backwards.

I know this seems like a know brainer but don't forget to plug the PSU into the wall. I don't see a cord on the back side of the computer.

Did you plug in the power connectors for the GPU?

About the 4/8 pin connector, it could be just an extra cable and you may not need to use it.

How much ram do you have installed? It looks like you have all the slots filled. I thought you only had 2 sticks. No problems here, just curious.

By power switch, you mean the little dongle that says POWER SW, RESET SW, etc? I have that plugged in the correct spots and then connected to the motherboard.

Yes, the PSU is plugged into the wall. I had unplugged it to pull it in a better area to work in.

I ended up getting 4 (2x2GB) sticks to fill it all out with. Probably unnecessary, but decided to anyways.
 
Actually, I may not have the most important component in. I haven't been able to connect this piece -

I'm assuming that's the main power to everything else, but I can't get it to connect to what looks like the correct 4 pin modular cable (modular cable is in my hand, case input is on the floor near the bottom right).

Is that the same as this? (taken from the build a comp thread)

If so, I'm guessing that's what I'm missing.
 
That's a molex...there's one that goes to the fan controller on top. It powers your fans, obviously. :P

Just a thought; That case has amazing cable management. Why not use it?

Hmm, then I'm not sure what I'm missing :/

I know it does, but I really wanted to get it up and running before I played with getting it all neat and tidy :P
 
Ah, alrighty :)

I noticed you said something about hooking the fans up? If you look, there are little tags on the cables coming from the case that match the little pictures on the sliders up top. Those are looking at the case from a "top down" view. Just match the fans locations up with the proper connectors. :good:

Apart from your CPU fan, none of them will actually connect to the mobo.
 
Well then, I'm out of ideas. I can't find where the case fan would connect to, as they come with a small three-pin connector, and I have no idea where that plugs in. May have to take it to some place that can tell me where I messed up :/

8 pin 12V rail is plugged in, 24 pin is plugged in, power switches are plugged in via the small dongle that came with the mobo, etc. Anything major to check for?
 
There should be a couple different 3 pin connections on the mobo that are labeled something like cpu fan, sys_fan, pwr fan.

Are you still not able to get it to power up?

I see those on the mobo, but the connectors don't seem to match up. The mobo wants a female pin, and the fan is a male 3 pin, so unless there's an adapter somewhere, I'm not sure what I'm missing.

No, I still can't get it to power up.
 
That is strange, I have never seen a male 3 pin connector for a fan.

Can you post a pic of the connector?

The fan alone should not be causing it not to start up. There has to be something else. It could be possible that you have a defective product.

Could it not boot if the SATA cables are plugged in the wrong slot/used the wrong kind?
