I dont want to spend over 400. is this possible lol? I will not be gaming on it. just for using access, world, excel, and browsing the web. I dont want it to be super slow though.

can anyone show me the right parts? i dont know anything about parts these days.

thanks

u could be better off buying a OEM built computer from futureshop/bestbuy or w.e ur local tech store is. they have some pretty good prices for non gaming comps

If you get one from the link above, get one that comes with windows already installed, alot of them do,unless you have a windows cd already.

When you've owned an OEM system and done a few upgrades, you'll get more of an idea what goes where and how. Not being an expert, and even though I have built my present system up from the ground, I still don't really feel I would have enough knowledge to guide someone else on how to do a home build from scratch. Having felt my way along, I can assure you it's not difficult, though most of what I've learned is through upgrading and reconfiguring an existing system. I think if you are unsure then this would be the way to go, as it teaches you a lot.

There are books available on how to build your own, so in the meantime, why don't you invest in one and see how you go from there?

Hope this helps

Just the tower and it's components?
Windows 7?
How much of the system do you need?
Do you have anything that can be reused?

:D Oh!!
Well I had this put together already, so I'll just post it for comparisome after we take some 7 $ and put it somewhere else!

Unlike most OEM's with their bloatware, proprietary attitude, crappy psu's and rather short warranties, building it yourself allows you to spend the money where you need/want with all the parts of quality and makes for easy upgrade paths.

This is $340 shipped with no rebates to fool with.

Decent quality, and enough for a modest GPU if ever wanted

The buit-in graphics will do those tasks and more. Including 2 monitors/resolutions higher than 1080. No HDMI on this one.

If you can find any promo's/rebates on similar quality, you could move up a tad on the mb and get one with amd 890 chipset, Sata 6.0 and/or usb 3.0/ HD 4290, however you won't see a difference between the 4250 & 4290 in those ^ apps.

What do you think of that case^?

If you have the retail product key and original dvd, then you can install it to the new hdd.
Xp/MS seems to be a little easier to work with as far as os/mb ties. The mb is considered the computer when it comes to MS and Windows. Change the mb = buy Windows//unless you have the retail key, then you can reuse the key on 1 pc at a time(with any install dvd).

However, now would be a good time to make the move to 7. Support for XP is ending soon. And 7 has many features that 7 doesn't.

I have another, different build that imo would be better in a couple diff ways. But it's right at 400. w/o 7.

Your thoughts?

problem is...i need to install access and outlook. if i were to get 7 would i have to buy new versions which are $200+.

Yep, I'd get the 255 @ 3.1 for $3 more tho.

That case doesn't come with fans. Not worth the extra cost.

I can come up with a little diff build for less $ in a bit, and i'll edit it into this post.
