Wanting to Build a new desktop

Alright, well you guys have convinced me pretty good on what to build. The following is what i have so far:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139005

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131760

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produc...CPUs_/_Processors-_-Featured-_-19-115-070

This is what i have so far. What i am thinking so far is G-Skill (possible sniper model but still researching). With this video card:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121429

These two are my next two steps. Right now researching memory to see which is best to go with and how much. As for the video card, I am really skeptical about running one of these "2 in 1" video cards. Such as how hot do they run? What kinda cooling do i have to do? Something i need your opinions and researching on.

Thanks for all your input, keep them coming :)

Pretty much overkill on the board.

Could get this and with the money left over get a SSD drive.

Nice board. I am going to buy a SSD drive anyway.

As for the comparison to the boards, may be overboard, but the Maximus has some features that the board you showed doesn't, that i like. such as Bluetooth. Other than a few other minor differences, they are just about the same board. Unless i see another board close to Maximus with a lighter price tag, i'm still thinking the Maximus is the way to go.

Thanks for your opinion though.

I just put my foot in my mouth. As i was looking closely at the comparison of these two boards, i noticed that the Maximus only has 2 USB 2.0. It has tons of 3.0. So looks like I'm on the hunt for a different board. I need a board with a bunch of 2.0 and 3.0. I also do want bluetooth all build into the board. If any of you find a board like the maximus but with more 2.0 please let me know.

Thanks

we'll i'd say you can get a controller card if you're set on the board, but that probably wouldn't add many slots, and remember that it depends on the case to how many are in front, and the mobo only controlls what's on the i/o panel

The Eatx motherboard won't fit in the 600T.
2.0 will work with 3.0 on those usb's. They're backwards compatible.

Also, with Stranglehold's mb and linkin's case suggestions, you'l have 15 usb ports, 3 of them 3.0.

Good to know that the 3.0 are backwards compatible. I can't really think of anything i own that is 3.0 specifically made. Are you sure the EATX won't fit? In the specifications (along with many youtube videos) it goes on saying how it will fit oversized boards (that is what this board is, "oversized").

I'm sorry i forgot to add the links of where i found this:

http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91540

In this thread you will find: I don't think the 600T supports E-ATX default but the case does fit a E-ATX board without any worries,I just fitted a asus rampage 3 extreme board into the 600T case and it fitted no dramas at all, only thing that may annoy some people is that the board overlaps a couple of the rubber gromets but that's no big deal here is how my system looks with the board in,you can also watch this youtube review with a rampage 3 extreme installed in the 600T aswell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mh1kfw-3nRE
http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/2138/1002594d.jpg

Judging by the picture, it does look to be the Rampage III. In which i do believe the Rampage is the same size if not larger than the Maximus.(which i have found to be the same size.

Now i know in the details of this tower it does not say E-ATX, but judging what i have seen, it will fit. What are your opinions on this?

Thank you for pointing this out, something that did slip my mind. Keep the opinions and options comming.

Not really for sure, would hate to say one way or the other. Have you checked out the NZXT Phanton case, full tower and take E-ATX boards.
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6634207&CatId=1510

I dunno, judging by the picture it looks like it will fit fine (The maximus being the same size as the Rampage III).

I took a look at the NZXT Phanton case. Not my cup of tea. Looks too bulky and all over the place. The front really turns me off, the whole Alienware looking front. But thank you for the option. I am looking for a much neater, clean looking case. Easy access, interchangeable case. Simplicity yet sturdy. That's why i like the 600T so much. Clean, small, neat, interchangable (can modify the inside of the case to best suit your needs.

Alright, so not sure if anyone cares or not, but this is what i got so far for my build:

Case: Corsair 600T White Edition - I really like this case, it's clean looking, easy to build with.
MoBo:
Asus Maximus IV Extreme Rev. 3.0 w/ Dual DDR3 - Dispite what people think, i really do think this board is awesome. Not only do i love Asus BIOS, but with this board i can do a lot of stuff. Not to mention some of the features it comes with is awesome.
CPU: Intel Core i7 - 2600K - After researching what you guys have said about this processor, i would be stupid not to go with this. It is one hell of a processor.
HDD: 2TB Caviar Black Western Digital 7200RPM - As far as i know, this HDD is pretty decent. I really don't need 2TB but it's priced pretty good
SSD: Kingston SSDNow V+ Series 128GB - I wanted a 500GB, but seeing as i am unsure what brand to go with, and never trying an SSD before, i thought i would try this one (decent price for what you get) If i like it, i will get an additional one to go with it.
Optical Drive: LG Super MultiBlue 10x Blu-ray Disc Writer w/ Lightscribe - Just a disc drive. Nothing special
Video Card: Asus Matrix GTX 580 Platinum 1536MB PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, HDMI - from what i have been reading, this card is pretty good. I am sure there are better ones out there, but right now my choice is on this one for how good it performs. I was also looking at the EVGA GTX 580, they seem pretty good. Still in research mode on this one slightly.
PSU: Corsair Gaming Series GS 800W - from what i have looked at, Corsair is the way to go. I figure 800W should be plenty (if wrong, let me know) Picked the gaming series because they are suppose to be superb on quality.
Memory: GSkill Ripjaws X Series 8GB PC3-17000 Dual Channel (2x4GB) - Memory is where i am having the most trouble with. So much to choose from. I picked this because it gets very high ratings. I want to try GSkill (was told it is pretty good). Was thinking about 2 packs of 4GB of the same stuff instead of 1 pack of 8GB. Main reason is i like my memory banks filled (visual appearance) don't need more than 8GB.

Now I am just going with Windows 7 Premium, i have no use for ultimate or professional. Haven't really decided on liquid cooling yet. One option is going for Corsair H100 CPU cooler and just add a heatsink to the GPU (not too keen on this one). Do up a custom cool job, but run into the problem of radiator space. The way i would fix this is build a separate cooling cabinet (with all the bells and whistles to go with it). Something i am going to keep looking at.

So that is pretty much what i got so far. I was trying Newegg.ca, but the prices are higher than my local computer store. Plus they told me that they would cut me a discount on everything if i buy from there.

Now because i am new to liquid cooling, and haven't built a computer in a while, i was going to go get the Corsair 600T case and put my components in my desktop in it and try out a few things. I am also new to overclocking as well. The following are the components i have right now:

Case: Just a cheapy, doesn't even support liquid cooling.
Motherboard: Asus P5K SE
CPU: Intel Q6600 2.40GHz
Memory: Kinston DDR2 6400MHz total of 8GB
HDD: Western Digital WD5000AAKS-00A7B0 ATA Device (500GB)
Video Card: NVIDA Ge Force 8800 GT
PSU: Will have to look into lol, its just a cheapy, and i gotta look harder to see how many watts

So basically i want to take all of this (with possible upgrades to this) and overclock (something that i will have to learn how to do). At the same time, try out liquid cooling.

So basically that is just an update for now. Let me know what you guys think. None of this is going to get built until i get to see how the Bulldozer performs. If it is something that interests me, i get to do this all over again.

Leave comments and let me know what you guys think :) thanks for all your help!

Dont get no Kingston SSD. Go with OCZ Vertex 2/G Skill Pro or Sniper/Corsair Force/Mushkin Enhanced Callisto

Dont go with a Corsair GS 800 model.
This TX 750 is better.

or even better

Why those choices of SSD? What is different about them? I like the TX power supplies. I just read in another forum that the Gaming series are pretty damn good. 750W? is there any difference between the 750W or the 800W (other than 50W lol). Also the last one there, is that better just because it is crossfire ready?

What is different about them?
^ All have Muti-Level Cells (MLC) which is preferable for price/performance of the flash cells.
A couple differences are Kingston uses a different controller than the faster Sandforce controllers the other ones use, and the Kingston has twice the MTBF. 1,000,000 vs 2,000,000.

Sandforce 12xx controllers (Sata II) are the top solid performers for reads/writes and longevity.
The 22xx series Sandforce (Sata III) have had a performance issue and a firmware update/fix may be in the works.
ATM, the Sata II versions of the drives quoted above, and the Marvel controlled w/ Intell firmware Intel 510 are tops picks in the desktop SSD lineup.

Wow. Would have thought Sata III would have been faster than Sata II. Thanks for the info, did not know that about Kingston. I will have to search for the Corsair Force (or others). I can't seem to find the Intel ones, but i am sure i can get a price from where i am getting the rest of my equipment. Like all Intel, probably high priced.

Was looking around. Came up with this decision:

Corsair Force Series GT 120GBhttp://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233191

I also found the Intel ones (obviously i am blind). What do you think of these ones? I heard that they were pretty damn good as well:
Intel 320 Series 160GBhttp://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167054

As well i was watching on YouTube a guy doing an "Ultimate Build" (if you want the link, ill have to give it to you later, i am at work right now) and he was getting off with the OCZ drives. Saying how they are number one in the market (something to do with a new line up that just came out). Unless it was just specific to his build. Heres one:
OCZ Vertex 3 Series – MAX IOPS Edition 120GB SATA III
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227714

As a side note: can you explain the whole IOPS, not fully understanding it. Or give me a link that explains it in dummy terms lol

Thanks for all your help guys!

Sorry for all the posts, just trying to get everything decided on so i can build it.

I am looking for fans. What fans are quiet yet high performance? Also with my issue with Rad in this case, i heard that there were a slim line (thinner) that would help me. Does anyone know about this slim line stuff?

I would take the OCZ over the Intel.

IOPS is Input, Ouput operations per second. The MAX IOPS uses the same SandForce SF-2281 controller but has Toshiba TH58TAG7D2FBAS9 NAND Flash. Faster.

Its pretty much a toss up between the OCZ IOPS and the Corsair GT. But the cost of the Corsair has got it beat.

in the top post you mentioned going for the 16gb's or something, more than 2 sticks removes dual channel which will increase speeds some, but also unless you really want to get the 2600k, you could get the 2500k then go for the best of the best early 2012 when they pull out ivy bridge.
