I'm so confused.

Ok. I'm completely and utterly stumped on this one.
I went over to my girls house the other day. I kept turning her computer on and wondering why I kept turning the damn thing on.
Well, after actually turning the monitor on and watching it, it gets tot he screen where windows (7) shows it's little animation and then just...cuts off.
Thought there was something wrong with windows, so I tried safe mode, "last known config", everything. It all just shuts down.
So I continued by trying to reformat it. After loading the OS disk and booting it up, it gets to the "Windows is loading files" and as soon as that's done loading, it shuts off.
So, thinking the HD was shot, I put it into my computer...it booted up. No problems. I then tried something else. I took one of my 3 hard drives, and put it in her computer....it booted up. No problem.
So, I'm completely confused as to why the hard drive is perfectly fine(at least, seems like it in my computer), and yet, doesn't boot, but it starts when mine is in there.
Any ideas?

Shutting down is either a sign of bad hardware or most likely overheating. Did you try putting her drive back in her pc and try booting up again? When you put her drive in your system, did you boot to it or one of your own drives?

But if it was because of overheating, why would it have worked in my computer?
And yes, when I put her hard drive in my computer, I booted it, and only it.

Just to make sure I understand: her drive in your system = no problem. your drive in her system = no problem. her drive in her system = problem?

If that's the case, other than the situation being confusing, what's stopping you from just swapping drives and calling it a day?

Can't just swap the drives as most likely they have different computers/different hardware.

True enough, but he's already formatted at least 1 of the drives so it should be more or less a blank slate. Provided the sizes are comparable it should be easy enough to swap them. Again, that's assuming there's something weird going on preventing the original from working.

Wow you are right lol. That is confusing.
This kinda reminds me on Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine game when you need to find a way to open the door and you already investigated everything and have no idea what is the problem and you keep asking yourself: WTH MAN?! xD
(Yes I have weird way of thinking I admit ^^ )

Pyro HER HDD in HER computer worked okay before and now all of a sudden in HER computer HER HDD doesn't work, but YOUR HDD in HER computer works while HER HDD in YOUR computer ALSO works???
Because if that's the case then all I can say is WTF lol xD

Anyway...what are the names (Seagate,Samsumg,Western Digital...etc...) and types (PATA/SATA) of those 2 HDDs?

Does her motherboard support SATA HDDs or does she use PATA to SATA converter or contrary (if she has PATA HDD connected to SATA port) or no converter at all?

You can also try by reseting BIOS while leaving her original HDD in the computer plugged in,but plug out EVERYTHING ELSE and then hit the power button few times.By the way by the BIOS reset I do not mean to load OPTIMAL DEFAULTS.I mean to reset BIOS by removing the CMOS battery and leaving it out for 1 hour at least. So unplug everything from the computer, remove the CMOS battery, hit the power button few times and then leave computer like that for an hour. After an hour, return the CMOS battery, plug all the power cables back in,turn ON the computer,go to BIOS,load OPTIMAL DEFAULTS,save changes to CMOS,restart and then try to boot from her HDD or simply try to reinstall Windows.

Still it is so damn weird that her HDD in her computer ALL OF A SUDDEN it doesn't work while in your it works xD

I could switch them. I have a 320 in my computer, which is in hers. BUT, I have shit on it and would need to copy it to hers. And I don't wanna do that...lol.
But you guys are confused too...so...I might have to D:

They're both SATA. I think they're actually the exact same hard drive. Western Digital 320gig.
I've reset the BIOS, changed the battery, changed the SATA cable, used a different PSU, tried a different SATA plug on the board. I've literally tried everything. It's confusing as hell!

Lol, it's not even working now. When I put my hard drive in, it don't work anymore.
So, the motherboard is messed up, I assume.

Yes, that sounds like somethings wrong with the board then. I assume in your trouble shooting you checked the power, cables and what-not.

I most certainly did. Motherboard is shot. So I have to either try to find a cheap one to replace it, or just get her a new computer. D:

Is the fan racing? Could be a heat problem like I had. After taking out the fan/heat sink assembly, removing the old grease with alcohol, and puting on new grease it was like I had a new computer.
