Building a PC

can you guys look at what i am thinking of buying and let me know what you think? Is this all good?

a few concerns - is the RAM compatible with the CPU? the cpu says Dual Channel DDR3-1066/1333 but the ram is 1600. I have no knowledge of OC, but may want the option later

Also, I already bought the PSU and GPU - is the psu enough for this unit?

this is right in line with my budget. the mobo is inexpensive, but is it good enough?

thanks!

case - $70

Agreed with azeem40. i5 2500k will get you the same framerates in game. The case isn't very good, no cable management. Look into Lian Li or coolermaster cases.

thanks....i thought the case was one of the high points. 4 fans and the cool blue led....i like that. cable management is a bigger deal for me though. i will have to make that pretty with zip ties

look at the picks, you can't get anything but maybe the pci-e's or the hdd power cables through those, it basically has 0 management, and lian li cases look similar, and cooler masters are cooler, this one is cheaper and alaround better, anbd you can buy a blue led fan fairly cheap, under 10 bucks for a good one.

and do you already have a copy of windows?

i was looking at that case too. i thought it was nice, but only had 2 fans vs 4.

no copy of windows. planning on using linux mint

guys, i cant seem to decide on my case. the cooler master that was posted is giving me serious thought.

here is the case i already have coming from newegg

here is the coolermaster case i am thinking about switching to

cable management is extremely important to me. but the Antec has 4 fans and i like the blue lighting. it gives it some personality. Having 4 fans preinstalled is a big deal to me.

So i ask you....is having 4 cooling fans important? if its not then i will go with the bigger coolermaster case which has 2 installed fans

i will only be running 1 GPU, 1 HD, 1 DVD Rom. I have the i7-2600K with this aftermarket heatsink

4 fans vs 2 fans with cable management?

thoughts?

cable management is more important.
The HAF is designed specifically for airflow, which means cooler temps. Plus if you really need 4 fans, then just buy 2 more fans. They are only about $5 each.

Yes, HAF = high air flow. go with the HAF 912! by far!
(even though its mid tower)
HAF X = full

IMO you should get the Antec. So many people have the HAF that it might be nice to have some personality.

Too many people take their builds way to vainly. (This is me including, ie matching colors RAM, fans, etc) I would take performance over looks any day of the week. Runs faster, lasts longer, etc, etc. Coolermaster all the way, when comparing both of them.

Also, i recommend changing the CPU to a i5-2500k since it's a budget PC. The difference between i5 and i7 is not that big for most personal use.

I agree. The performance in games, desktop browsing and general use of your PC is the same.

i went with the cooler master. i was hoping to be talked out of it since i already had the Antec on its way. that didnt happen

the reality is basically everything u guys have told me. I looked and saw a much larger case with ALOT more versatility and expansion. The only thing the Antec had was the 4 fans...but blue isnt even my favorite color.

i looked at the cost of the $60 CM case plus 1 200mm fan was about $80. so i decided to go just a bit further and get this case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197

it has 2 200mm fans and one is red...i got it locally for just $85
