Need help for new pc

Thanks guys,:D Do you think a laptop might be better?
If all you want to do is school work, then yes it may be a good idea, especially if you want to take it to places such as friend's houses or to school or wherever.

absolutely not. Most laptops you are stuck with the GPU and CPU that you get unless you want to spend hundreds (600+) and hours to upgrade it with something that may or may not work.
I agree with you entirely, laptops can be a pest to upgrade, but the OP said this earlier...

I need it for school work
...he never said he wanted it for gaming. For schoolwork and internet browsing and maybe the odd DVD here and there a half decent GPU and a half decent CPU would be just fine for him. Most people who buy laptops aren't looking to upgrade their hardware, they just want something that works. Most laptops that do what the OP want to do aren't going to be that expensive, all he's going to need is a 500GB HDD, a dual-core CPU and 3GB or 4GB RAM, nothing more. Certainly doesn't need a quad-core, more than 4GB RAM or an expensive GPU.

Thank you. I've got to learn more about this kind of thing. I'm only good with computers that work, like programming and stuff like that.:)

So have you decided desktop or laptop and I am guessing your budget is still 200 bucks right?

At the moment I'm going to say that with your budget, if you want a desktop, you need to probably buy second-hand because buying/building new for $200 is going to be a challenge and you're not going to end up with a great machine. If you want a laptop you may be able to get a decent laptop for $200, but again, look into the second-hand market. Try eBay, it's full of 3 year old machines for really cheap prices. For schoolwork I'm probably going to recommend a laptop over a desktop as you can take the laptop to school and to friend's houses etc BUT you mentioned programming. If that's the case, then you want a screen with a high resolution on your laptop/monitor so that you can see all the lines of code. If you get a laptop, I'd recommend buying an external monitor that you can leave at home and plug into your laptop when it's at your desk at home, solely for programming so that you can see all the lines of code when you program without having to constantly keep scrolling. That's just my recommendation.

Ya thanks, but I think I might have to bring my budget up a little:(

What are you going to bring your budget up to? That will determine whether you need to buy second hand or whether you can buy brand new. If you're still interested in building a desktop (don't know if you still are or not) even raising the budget from $200 to $300 should get you a better machine, better still raise it to $400 or $500. Same goes for a laptop, you'd get a half decent laptop for $300, but for $500 you'd get a much better one.
