Now Seagate hdd are not quality and not lasting.
I really think it all depends on what country you live in. Seems STARS and a few others that don't live in UK or USA have issues with them, so my assumption may be correct. When I first got into computers all I would ever use would be WD and had no issues. Then all of a sudden, I come across some bad drives so I switched to seagage for awhile. Then started having issues with their drives and didn't like the way you had to ship them back to them in special wrapping. So I went back to WD and have only had 1 bad drive shipped to me in say 3 years. All I order is WD for my client builds as well. I bought one Samsung drive about 6 years ago and its still going strong, its the SP2504C. In fact I have all my music and data backed up on it.
Let's face it, they are a mechanical drive and can die at any time. But I've never in my lifetime seen drives go out like STARS has said they have for him. So again, I'm assumming thats its where they live or where they are getting their drives from. Maybe the drives are handled rough in shipping.
But basically the only drives I would consider buying are in order.
1. WD
2. Seagate
3. Samsung
Unless they have changed, Maxtors ran too hot. And there were way too many problems with toshiba/fujitsu drives.
I will toss in that of all the HDD utilities out there, the Toshiba utility is the worst. It will tell you a perfectly good drive has failed.
