pc build

just use a simple 17" 1280x1024 thing. imo anyway :P
Yeah that's we use for our server at home, just an old 17" 1280x1024 LCD we had kicking around. That's all you need for a server.

He's not building a server anymore, he's building an HTPC now, hence why he needs the decent graphics card to support a 1080p 50" LCD.

So long as the resolution of the TV is 1920x1080 and not any higher, a 1GB GT 520 should be OK for you. You may want something a bit more powerful though, something like a GT 440 would be the most you'd need.

Oh on that bicycle :P (dutch saying) Yeah you are right.

Well I think the 520 will perform at 1080p just might Bluescreen or crash as soon as it has to do anything heavy on the GPU side, so it would be smarter to get the GT 440. Or if Byte has the money look around for a GTX280. Might not be the cheapest for an older card, but they perform damn well compared to some of the newest cards.

Not, my htpc, one to sell. I don't have the money to buy a HTPC, buying my desktop wiped me clean outa spending money. I would choose a 240 for the htpc, mine performs great on my 1366x738 while doing heavy gaming, I would imagine it would work fine for hd movies on a big screen. But back on topic, what's the best htpc $45 gpu? Also, some htpc case recommendations under $50 would be nice.

Wow the GTX 280, that's brought a whole ton of memories of me being a 12 year old and just getting into the whole IT-thing back! ;)

Yeah the 280 would be a great card to throw into an HTPC, maybe a little overkill, but that would easily run a 50" 1080p TV with no problems. You'd need a better PSU if you had one of those one though, I'd say 650W or 700W. Those things were power hungry, and you'd need a good case as they ran hot too.

Still think a GT 440 would be all he would need though, a GTX 280 would be good, but a bit over the top I think. Pairing a GTX 280 with a Celeron would just be weird as well! :D

yeah true, I'm looking for 2 of those for my Salvage build, so I can run SLI :P

Also don't forget the HUUUGE bottleneck on the 280 and a celeron :P graphics power would be so high that the system would suck because computing power is so low lol.

See if you can get a cheap GT 220 or 240 for less than $50, that would be a good place to start (the GT 430s and 440s seem a bit more expensive). As for a case, pretty much anything will do, try this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147159 looks striking!

Lol over here they are like 30 euro's so i think 40$ MAX. A friend has one and they perform ok. Does what it has to do, give image on a monitor but for the rest they are pretty damn sh*t :P

A 240 is 50 bucks, that's for 512 MB, I got mine new on Ebay for $45, and it's 1 gig. So a 220 would be better than a 520?

Not by much, It will do the same thing. Just imo I don't recommend using a 50" tv as a monitor, seems like a waste to me.

My cheese, razzer, it's an htpc, what do people do with an htpc? They hook it to there tv. What's there tv? It very well might be a 80 inch plasma. What's the best htpc card for $50? Prefferbly, $45 and under.

Oh yeah lol keep forgetting its an HTPC, sorry.

Well as Vista said then this kind of card would be the best:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130656

its 50$ so it would max the budget but still would do the trick, and should be able to handle it with ease. otherwise look for a cheap hd67xx series on Ebay or something, they are also good for this kind of thing.
