Upgrading to an intel CPU with AMD motherboard

CPU does matter, yes, but your FX-8120 should be fine for gaming, Overclock a little and it will be nicer still. :)

The graphics card is what you want to spend most on when building a gaming PC, so I'd say that yeah, if you want to improve gaming performance, your best bet would be a new GPU and PSU. A 7850/7870 and a Corsair CX 600 would be great and would work with your AMD setup just fine.

I think my PSU is 750W, but that one is 600W, why would it help? (sorry again!), and would the GTX 500/600 series be compatible with my motherboard?

Your current PSU is likely very cheap and not a quality unit. Read the info in my signature below about PSUs. You want a good quality one, such as the Corsair, in order to be assured of maximum reliability. Your 750W likely isn't even outputting anywhere near 750W, despite what it says on the PSU.

Yes, the GTX 500/600 series would be compatible, I'd still recommend some of the Radeons over the GeForces because of higher memory buses though, meaning better AA performance. :) That's not to say that the GeForces are bad, they're great, it's just some of them (660 Ti especially) are a bit bottlenecked.

Are you 100% about compatibility? and http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/547?vs=536

What about something like this?

Yes I am 100% sure and for £120 that's a pretty good deal.

The GTX will work with your current board without a problem. Do upgrade the PSU though.

I'll definately upgrade the PSU if I was to upgrade the GPU, what's your opinion on 6850/6970 compared to the 7770?

Also, does having a GPU with 2gb dedicated video really help you alot over having 1gb?

6970 owns the 7770 by a long long shot. The 6850 is a mid range card and the 6970 was one of the higher end ones. Have you considered the 6950 and the 6870? Both of those are faster than the 7770.

I have, been looking up prices, I've just been trying to open my case! :/ Don't know the screwdriver I need, Got the X11 Advanced X-Station :P

Um usually any crosshead screwdriver should do unless the screws are flathead. Usually these days the screws are thumbscrews anyway, so no need for a screwdriver.

Two of the screws are thumb screws, but the other two are crosshead, anything that might be able to replace it?

You only need two screws for the side panels anyway, you don't need all four, so once you've unscrewed the screws you can just not bother replacing the screws.
