Asus Maximus Extreme failing to boot with a CPU INIT Code

Hi Guys,

Ive got a Asus Maximus Extreme motherboard which is failing to boot.

Ive stripped it right down to CPU RAM Gfx Card and Power supply.

On the little LCD Display it shows the code CPU INIT which is the CPU Initialization process in the boot. It shows this whether its trying to start or when the power supply is just turned on and the motherboard isnt.

When i do try to start it up by the onboard power button it will fire up everything for 4 seconds and then switch off for 4 seconds, then turn it self back on for 4 seconds and repeat the process.

Ive tried a Quad 9550 CPU in there and a E2200 Dual core in there which are both supported processors, a 6970 Graphics card and 2GB DDR3 RAM.

Ive tried the Major long CMOS Reset which seems to be a common problem with these boards but that seems to be about a no post beep problem rather than a problem with it shutting off and restarting itself.

Any ideas to try?

Thanks :)

Is this a build you just did or was it up and running and this just started?

CPU initialization tells me to reseat the processor. Have you reseated the processor?

Could also simply be a bad BIOS chip/install. Did you recently install a new BIOS?

Has the computer been moved any?

Either way, try reseating the processor and heatsink and see if that helps.

i took out everything from the motherboard and then i put again the processor only and still the same problem. Launch for 1 sec then turn off for 3 sec, and at the minidisplay says CPU INIT

If you reseated, and have not changed the BIOS as you say, then you are left with 2 possible problems. A bad board, or a burnt out CPU. The first is more likely.

Take the heatsink + CPU off and check the pins on the CPU socket for any which are bent/damaged.

As you have reset the CMOS, I am saying it isn't software related and as you said it fails to work after RAM has been pulled (and I assume you are with 1 stick, tried each DIMM slots and didn't work), not memory related either.

Dead board imho, but see if you can work out why, either by the pins as mentioned before or if there is any track damage. If nothing is visible, RMA and should get a repair (I assume out of warranty, so you will have to pay if they are to accept it), or buy another board. Because the board is discontinued, you won't get a replacement like for like either way
