problem with new build, please help

Also, since I will be reinstalling the CPU on the new Motherboard when it arrives, will I have to clean the current Thermal Paste ?

What stuff will I need to clean it ?
 
Yes I have the OS on disk, but it was an OEM version which lock into the motherboard, will I have to buy a new license or will Windows recognize the new board exacly like the old one ?
 
If its the same motherboard you have nothing to worry about. If its a different motherboard with a different chipset then you'll need to reinstall windows and might have to get a new license, depending if MS will activate it on the new motherboard for you.
 
It will be a replacement motherboard. It's not the same motherboard repaired, but it's still the exact model but a brand new one. If you understand what I mean.
 
It's best to clean up and apply new thermal paste.

Also if you call Microsoft and explain to them that you replaced a dead PC they may activate it for you.

EDIT: if your new CPU come with a heatsink/fan it'll have the paste on it. Just clean up the CPU.

OK thanks for all the help fellas, really appreciate it.

Any ideas what caused the motherboard to suddenly die after just 2 weeks of usage ? Was it anything that I did wrong ? I don't want a new board to die again, or its going to look dodgy returning all these expensive stuff :D

No, Im still using the same cpu and heatsink, which is a CM hyper 212 evo. So I guess I'll have to clean both.

What will I need to clean it. I'm going to have to pick it up later today.
 
Btw when u RMA ur board make sure u put on the CPU cover and if u have it put it b into original anti static bag it came with along with ALL accessory they gave u including paper manuals cds and cable IO panel etc so they wont give u any trouble...

Considering this was my first build, I've had my fair share of bad luck.
 
Haha im sure asus will send u a good one xD usually cant go wrong with asus...
Make sure u do the testing with new board (power up with just cpu ram and heat sink) before fully reassembling and clean the thermal paste completely before applying a new one xD and keep all ur parts safe while the new board is on the way!

I've read that many people are having problems with this board, but hopefully my next board will be fine.

Was there anything that I might have done to damage the motherboard. Other than shorting it as I'm certaint I wasn't shorting it.
