Hi guys: i´m trying to boot an Linux ISO that i made, either from a CD or USB but my laptop sony vgn- 195ep won't see the cd or USB,upon restart i enter the bios and change the drive it has dvd but not usb selection,i change to dvd but no avail.And the USB Stick it seems that it turns off the usb stick during booting ,.I´m i missing something? thanks

How are you putting the ISO on the disk/USB drive?
I suggest you use this to make it bootable.

Thanks nevakoaza; i did download the Iso from Linux mint web site suggest link one of the USA links,then i used the dvd burner dragged the linux iso from the desk top to the dvd burner,
the USB i did download iso same way to the desktop then i used win Unetbootin program then after download it told me to restart the laptop i did but it did not reboot with the stick rather turns off the usb stick and boots normally with winxp on the cd and stick.Thanks.
Thanks, I was able to make the CD ISO after some struggle and waisted a coupler DVD,but well allways learning,also on the medle of the struggle
i did lost the Win xp but i was able to install Debian GNU/Linux 7.0.0-wheezy, also could make an USB boot stick a piece of advise not to use Unetbootin this one is peice of crap never could do nothing with it rather use
Pen Drive and it will save you time and patience.
now that i'm set can you please tell me how to config. thwe wireless

My first question is do you have the wireless card configured? One issue with Debian is they only use free software, on my vaio it requires a proprietary driver or at least that is what I found when I had Debian 6.0 installed which I had to manually install since Debian would not offer that. Yeah, that's true, by default. But if you just add contrib and non-free repos to /etc/apt/sources.list then you can access all the software, including proprietary software and drivers. In my case, since i use "testing", it looks like this:

i made an iso of mint14 mate KDE and tryied to install on vgn a 195ep
but it won't pass the logo i installed the iso cd on my other pc Lenovo and it installed good so much so i kept it instead of Ubuntu 1204LTS for now.
what other distro you think will install on this machine and will run the wireless easy

I see that you have an old laptop. Try to install lubuntu linux which is lighter version of ubuntu and is intended to be used on older PCs.

pu300 thanks i'll give it a try,
let you know that when i start to install Debian 7.0.0 wheezy it ask me for
IPI2200 card files tells me to put in a usb of flopy disk with this file i put it on the usb stick and put it in the usb port but since upon start the usb is turned off while the system is booting,also there is no drive for a usb in the bios setup,only hhd and dvd.so the only way is the dvd iso.

Hi it's me again i couldn't get wireless to work on debian7 so i tried Lunbuntu but it won't install won't pass the logo, same with linuxmint14 so i went to Xunbuntu and it installed good but i can't get the wireless to work either wire cable works great, sorry if i bother you too much,it seems i can not go back to winxp cause i have an blue screan error

i think it has to do with drivers, i already did update drivers from sony,but no avail.
now i have to stick wirh Linux Distro and this what i want in the first place since winxp will end sup next year,
Ipw2200 that work have to find a Linux Distro that runs on this old Laptop and that supports the sony drivers.

A note about the drivers. I am guess that you need to install the common files for your wireless card. I'll give you an example for a broadcom wifi card.
If you do not have synaptic package manager, install it through the software center you might also be able to install it with
sudo apt-get install synaptic
Open synaptic package manager and search broadcom. Install the package broadcom-sta-common. Then open additional drivers and see if there is a new wireless driver for you to use. You might need a reboot for that driver to show in that menu.
If you do not have a broadcom wireles card this will not work. Check what vendor makes your wifi adapter.

ThanksNyxCharon: Now i intalled XUNBUNTU and i like it but it suffers the same problem no wireless,i tryed a few distros mint14 kde,and nadia ,Lunbuntu don't install,
Debian 7,wheezy and now Xunbuntu both work on my machine but no wireless and no Flash player. and those items are very inportant to me,

Thanks bro there is no need i have solved the problem and everything is running great including Flash Player, don't ask me how i done it ,all i know i have downloaded restricted pakages from Ubuntu and went in the update software ticked some items the reloaded unloaded, my finguers hurt of some much tempering with it,the only thing i know i'm an happy camper
i'm happy that tried so many distros and ended up with the better( for me of course) an easier and windows very alike for even easier to navigate.
