After security patch windows will no longer load

Hello everyone,

I run Windows 7 on a laptop. On Tuesday my laptop downloaded the latest security patch from Microsoft, and it installed when I turned my laptop on Wednesday afternoon. Some hours later I tried to upgrade Samsung Kies for my Galaxy S3. During the installation an error came up about something going wrong with windows and I clicked ok.

Windows explorer proceeded to close followed by my computer gong to a BSOD, but I didn't copy the error before it shut down. I tried to use with windows repair menu from the boot menu, but it said it couldn't fix my computer and that I had a bad patch. Thanks Microsoft! I then found out that both my system image and my system backup didn't really work. So I went back to the boot menu and tried to boot into safe mode, but I got another BSOD. Well great. I tried the last known working configuration, but that didn't work either.

I'm stumped at this point. What can I do to fix my laptop without getting rid of my personal data guys?

Usually with a bad update, you are forced to reinstall windows. Can you find a windows 7 install cd, the same version you have installed? You can try loading it and choose to repair your pc and then if it can't, you get a page of other options at the end. See if doing a system restore will work.

If it won't work, then you always put your drive in another system and transfer your files over that way and then reinstall windows.

Thank you for the fast response! As my laptop came with windows 7, I unfortunately don't have an OS cd. I read about caddies that I can use to transfer my data over to another computer though. How much do these usually cost, and do you know if I can find one at a place like best buy?

Cheers!

Does your computer BSOD or just not boot? If you can enter the advanced boot menu by pressing F8 before the loading screen, then you can choose Repair Your Computer and do a system restore to before the update.

BTW, here are the links to the official Windows 7 ISO's

I forgot that I had a second HDD in my laptop, so I might try and install one of the ISOs from above on there to salvage my data. I'm at school right now so I'll try that when I get home and tell you guys how it works out.

You don't need to install Windows to get your files. You can just download Hirens Boot CD from here and run Mini Windows XP.

But like I said, see if you can do a system restore so you don't have to reinstall Windows.

yes Once I saw this software while online technical guys were fixing up similar issue of my pc .tekkfix was the Online support if i am not wrong.

You can use ANY good OS that can load from CD disk (or some other type of media storage) directly such as Linux Ubuntu to copy or move any data you want to another location.

By the way...this is exactly what happens when you update OS with unneccessary updates...let me ask you something...did you install those updates just because most of majority says that OS must be ALWAYS FULLY UPDATED (what BS by the way) or did you install them to fix the errors/problems in the OS which were really PRESENT on your computer?

I usually have manual updates on. I turned automatic updates on by accicdent and accidentally downloaded that update.

Anyway though; I used Hiren's BootCD to get all of my personal data off of my pc, and then I reformatted it. Thanks for the help guys! :)
