Hello,

I've got a CHIVF with a 1090T processor. Either the CPU Fan was having issues or the CPU its self was having issues (I think it was the fan because it wasnt always kicking in at full speed) but all together i started having heat problems. I purchased the Corvair H80I to take care of this issue. When removing the heatsink the CPU came with it! Looking it over everything looked fine, no bent pins. Cleaned it up, reinstalled, installed the new water cool (with pre applied thermal paste) and no post! the CHIVF has an LED indicating that the CPU is the issue... Using the ROG Connect, getting a CPU Initializing and not getting any further, my assumption is its the CPU... I even removed it, cleaned up the paste, added more and reseated, same issue. Any ideas?

Oh, I also, tried with only one MEM stick, tried resetting the BIOS via the bios reset button, nothing is making this thing post. re seated the 24 pin and the 8 pin. Unplugged the optical drive. I think the CPU is dead.

I considered replacing the chip with the new FX 8350 but im concerned with the BIOS being out of date and therefor continuing to have the same problem.

I dont have another system to test the MOBO and the CPU with. Help me out! thanks.

Maybe Corsair's TIM is conductive, and some of it got on the board, socket, or CPU pins? You should check all the contacts around the socket, for sure.

Is TIM the thermal paste? So your suggesting I should see if there is any of the paste that maybe fell off onto the board somewhere and is possibly shorting it?

I just looked over it.. doesn't look like any fell off onto the board.

unless I miss my diagnostics amd Phenom chips have very tough pins that match upto very fragile pins in cpu socket, check the mobo cpu pins with a magnifying glass

How do I go about doing this? Do i have to somehow remove the seat? Or do i try to look inside little holes of the seat?

took it out again, and again the chip came out with the heat sink.... Im looking a magnifying glass but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. Whatever I see inside the holes doesn't exactly look like pins. It is silverish in color. What should i do next? Did I look in the right place? Is it worth trying the CPU with the old CPU cooler on it?

Did you make sure it didnt pull any pins out and they/its stuck in the hole/s. Look at the bottom of the CPU and make sure. There are no pins in the motherboard socket, just holes with contacts, the pins are on the bottom of the CPU. Have no idea what hes talking about.

Thanks for the responses guys. I just checked again right now and all the pins are there except one was bent this time. When i was trying to remove it from the heat sink it fell off. I bent it back. it also chipped a tiny piece off the green part of the chip.. This all happened just this last time i pulled it out so that couldn't have been it before... but i guess now it could be done for for good?? :X

Nope, didnt fall off.. but im guessing it might be pulled out next time i have to remove the heat sink again. The heat sink is currently removed and so is the processor, so hopefully when i put it back i dont have to pull it again.

Just make sure the pin is straight and goes in the hole right. What type of compound are you using? usually only old dried compound will pull the CPU out. You just apply about the amount of a grain of rice in the middle of the CPU and spread it out even or let the heatsink spread it out.
