so i ve narrowed it down to these 2 1440p screens...help

+1 I haven't used a Dell monitor but I've heard great things about them.

OP, you could even get 1600p chinease one for $600 on eBay.

I managed to find this which is $400 right now, great deal. I'm pretty sure most brands use the same quality displays, by LG, etc. including Yamasaki and similar brands. So you will probably get the same quality out of the display out of a chinese monitor as a Dell or similar but the stand may be cheaper, and you won't get as nice of a warranty.

Not exactly true. The pro displays that Dell, HP, Apple, Asus... sell are usually Grade A panels. The off brands might use the same LG or Samsung display but it is the Grade B or C that are not used in the better displays. These are not only better quality displays, but they are also generally housed in better casing with more features built in. I also saw in a few of the off brand designs that the circuit boards were blowing capacitors and the back lighting was going out. So there is more to the quality than just the panel itself. It is true that there are good monitors that come from there but you will get a better all around product if you get one from the better manufacturers.

The Dell would be great but it is $240 more than what the other ones he posted.

Sounds like the hp is lacking in the OSD menu, but I never really use mine. Way more important for photo enthusiasts than gamers. After upgrading my monitor, I noticed screen tearing way more than any response time issues. I still don't see any blur or ghosting when playing. Like I said in your other thread, if you were a professional FPS player I would push for a lower response time, but I think the better panel and better construction is worth moving from 8ms to 12ms.

Just my thoughts.

EDIT: Just saw that the QNIX is a PLS monitor. This might help sort out the differences

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/14122-pls-or-ips/

Same is true with what I said above. PLS will have their different grades same as IPS and the build quality will be different in the different price ranges. It really depends on what you value for your money. Personally I don't really think there is a definite wrong choice here.

thanks guys for all the feed back. I really cant spend more than like $400. which is why ive posted the hp and the qnix. I wouldn't mind the hp, but again just worried about the 12ms response time, compared to the 6ms of the qnix. ive read that a lot of the hp monitors are going out or dying, or have issues while still new. but that is really irrelevant since every screen is dofferent. well, I still am not sure then. I have till the 1st week of march to figure it out. any other opinions would be great

as long as the refurbished one comes with a warranty it might be a good deal. It's a $700 monitor new. Benefits of a Professional display without paying as much for it. PLS vs IPS really is nothing to worry about. Both are going to be great for what you want to do. Really up to you on this one. If you are really scared of the 12ms response time then pick the best of the ones that are under 8ms. I would probably go Samsung first(as long as refurb is ok), Achieva, then Qnix.

I cant seem to find any warranty info in the Samsung

http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...igerdirect.com/applicati...39055&CatId=12

it says 60 months parts labor limited through manufacture though. nothing through tigerdirect themselves. I don't know if this matters or not.

I am really likeing the shimian cause of the higher color reproduction and all glass screen cover. but then I like the Samsung cause of its name and ive had a few in my past and were always great. just don't know what the warranty is on the refurbed Samsung.

Limited warranty 60 months for parts and 60 months for labor.
Support URL: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/contact
Support Phone Number: 1-800-SAMSUNG

Looks like you can either call them or get a chat session started to get it fixed. 5 years parts and labor. Not bad IMO. Most warranties will not go though Newegg or TD. Unless you buy them separately, you will have to go through the manufacturer. I would probably take the 5 years on the Samsung vs the Achieva. Nothing against them, but I do not want to try to get support from a website that doesn't have an English option.

Personal preference, but I prefer Matte over Glossy. Colors are a bit duller but I never see any reflections. I have a lamp on the side of my desk and I see no reflections at all in any of my screens.

so basically your saying that Samsung is offering a good warranty on this display through them? and it should be good enough for me to not have to get a extended warranty through tigerdirect? should I call Samsung support and ask about the warranty that tigerdirect is stating and what it all includes?

It's a better warranty than what I would have expected for a refurbished model. 5 years for parts and labor is pretty good for a monitor. I am not sure if you would need to pay shipping both ways or not. I'm sure that you could chat with Samsung to get that straitened out.

I didn't see what the warranty was for the Achieva, but I have my doubts that it is 5 years.

Extended warranties are really up to you. I never really get them but I am really careful with all of my electronics. Sounds like you are as well.

in deed I am. im on the phone now trying to get through to Samsung. they don't state their hours, but im guessing im too late calling (9:30pm here)...ill try to contact them tomorrow, but by the sounds of it, im thinking im just going to go with the Samsung display. its damn near 1/2 off with a 5 year warranty. why not I suppose. plus its 1440p and the quickest ive looked at so far at 5ms. + it has a real nice stand....im thinking I should be alright. thanks so much for the kicker in helping me out. ive been drudging over this for a couple weeks now, and its nice to feel that im in the right direction finaly. if I order it which im sure im going to, ill let us forum peeps know my experience. hopefuly im happy with the outcome and that my gaming isn't limited by my hardware.

scratch...just talked to support and they told me that 5vyears is indeed the warranty and it covers all issues other than physical damage. they will pay for the shipment, and either fix the monitor, or replace it if they cant. so looks like ill be ordering this tomorrow. AWSOME!

Happy to help out another CF member. Deciding to spend the money on a high res display can be hard but like I said in one of your other threads, I have yet to see someone dissapointed with their choice to move up.

In case you want to try the live chat, it looks like they are on staff 24/7. Might give you a quicker answer

Also post lots of pictures... :D

That is a killer warranty for a refurbished model. Jump on it now. You will love it.

Again, happy to help. I went through the same process when buying my monitor. Just be sure to pass off the knowledge when you see someone else in the same situation. :D

4gb 670s in SLI will give you an awesome experience with the 1440 screen. Might not max everything but ignoring any SLI issues it has more than enough performance to max or near max most things.

well so far I havnt had any bad experiences with sli. ive had 2 x 470's in sli before and it was great, just like now with these 2 x 670 cards..no micro stuttering, no tearing, just good old 95% scaling. ill be updating this in a few days to a week, so keep an eye out for this thread as well as a new one when I can review this display. hats off again. thank you so much!

hey salvage. when you got your dell with that high resolution, was it like night and day compared to 1080p? do you consider the purchase worth it? and after having been on that high resolution, would it be an unenjoyable experience to have to go back to a 1080p monitor?
