GTX 760 2GB vs 4GB

Hi all,

My 5870 is on eBay and has some bids on it already so it is going to sell - so now I'm thinking about what to replace my 5870 with.

I'm going back to NVIDIA mainly for the CUDA support because I use my PC for things like Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and SpeedGrade - all of which are GPU accelerated and use CUDA - so I want to make sure I get a card which will do that.

Gaming performance is less important because I don't play many games but it would be nice to have a card powerful enough to play games in case I ever did get back into it.

I was looking at the GTX 750 Ti because it was cheap but I'm now looking at 760s instead because they are a bit more powerful and have more CUDA cores (1,152 vs 640).

I'm trying to decide between the 2GB or the 4GB GTX 760. I only edit 1080p video now so I think 2GB of V-RAM would be fine, but looking into the future 4GB would ideal for higher res video such as 2K or 4K footage and of course if I ever upgraded to a higher resolution monitor then the extra V-RAM will help me out.

I can get the 2GB for £170 and the 4GB for £200 - do you think it's worth spending the extra £30?

As a side note, I'm hearing rumours suggesting that the new cards are coming out in Q4 at some time. I won't be buying until the end of the month anyway, but Photoshop is pretty much unusable on my integrated graphics so I don't think I can wait long enough for the new cards! :P

I'd just get the 4GB, especially if you see yourself working with high end videos that need the extra RAM.

Yup I think I will go with 4GB. Cheers!

Definitely agree with that. The 2GB is made with regular 1080p gaming in mind. With 4GB, you're going to get noticeable benefit with video editing as well as (if your heart desires) multi-monitor gaming.

Yeah I think I'm pretty set on the 4GB. :)

In that case, nothing can go possibly wrong!

Just hoping my 5870 sells for a decent amount now. I've got 13 watchers so maybe there will be some crazy bidding in the last minute of the auction. ;)

Cheers for the help guys. I hope to be buying this card in about 3 weeks time. :)

Edit: Well it sold for £55 which is pretty good going - will definitely help to fund the new card. :)

I bought the 4GB card. It arrived today. Very happy with it so far! :good:

If you're interested you can watch my unboxing and first impressions video below. Watch in 1080p for optimal viewing experience! I'm going to try and make some more YouTube videos because I do quite enjoy making them. :)

Great!
I want to start reviewing with unboxing videos, but I'm afraid my oral english won't ever be as good as what I see in this video :)
Well Done Jason! Would you mind doing some tests for me?
