My question to you is, why would you not shut it down? A computer with an SSD only takes several seconds to power on. I wouldn't leave it on, power usage aside you wear out mechanical components such as fans quicker, and you risk your loop leaking with no one to notice and stop it.
Why do you want to leave it on? If your computer isn't doing anything and you know you will be away for an hour plus, turn it off. You aren't saving anything by leaving it on.What if I'm only going to be gone for one or two hours.
That's fine if it's doing something, but the OP only said he leaves his gaming computer on, and hasn't made any indication that it actually does anything while on.I start my computer in the morning because
1: It's part of the BOINC network, so it IS doing something
2: I remote into it throughout the day

What do you need to do remotely on your computer when you are away? Is it just for file access?
Might be easier to just get a NAS setup that is also a VPN server. It would definitely provide a better web experience. Even my AC68U router can act as a NAS with an attached USB 3.0 drive, and can be a VPN server.Usually file access or if I need to browse a website that is blocked at work.
