Microsoft HoloLens - A glimpse of the future..

The things we assumed to be impossible may be closer than we thought. Microsoft prepares the HoloLens to launch together with Windows 10.
Enjoy the video and let me know what you'd build/play/watch in your home?

Microsoft has already brought us amazing products in the past. Both software and hardware. Most of you are most likely reading this on a PC running one of Microsoft's many operating systems. So, a piece of technology that has the ability to intertwine the virtual world with the real, physical, world, is not too far fetched for them. So we're not too amazed by the fact that they come up with their new product, namely the "Microsoft Hololens".

The Hololens may look like a pair of safety goggles, but it certainly is not. It's actually a pair of highly-technological glasses that create holograms for the user to behold. Hence the name "Hololens". The system works by tracking your eye movement and then shooting a beam of light at them, somehow creating the image. Now, to straighten out an apparently commong misconception, the Hololens does not create an actual hologram in the room for everyone to see, only the user wearing the glasses can see it. Added to the eye tracking, the hololens has a wide range of sensors to track its user's movements, so you're even able to interact with the holograms!.

We here at Blackholetec think this product has a lot of potential. Can you imagine watching Netflix without a television or computer screen? Or would you prefer to play Minecraft using your coffee table as a building platform?

The possibilities are endless, and we'd love to get out hands on one.

First the Oculus Rift, then Sony's Morpheus, now Windows. Virtual reality is the new reality.

Could be exciting...or scary. :eek::D

Indeed, the thing is that you can still see the real world around you with hololens (if you choose to), which is just awesome.

True. What's more impressive is that all prototype VR devices we've seen recently are just a taste of potential first generation consumer VR technology. As always and with any tech device, improvements to function and design are expected in the coming years.

I hate to bring about tacky comparisons, but we all should expect to see this VR computing rival or exceed Tony Stark's VR automation system in the Iron Man series.

One last note. What will the conspiracy theorists think about this?

I don't see the use for something like this right now. Perhaps smaller like Google glass and tied to a smartphone. Then you can see idiots moving their finger all around in the car when you pull up to a stop light instead of seeing them face planted in a smartphone.

I would like to have a VR for my FS2004. Not sure if that title is supported by the current VR goggles that are out now. That is my main sim weighing in at around 50 GB. I do have FSX, but I don't have it installed right now.

Really? VR seemed like a frivolous endeavor back in the 80's when Nintendo released the Virtual Boy. But now? The application potential for a genuine, true-blue VR computer would revolutionize the tech industry and destroy quite a few others. This is some straight Matrix stuff. Model rendering will never be same.

In my opinion it doesn't matter whether or not the consumer finds "an immediate need" for this technology. Virtual Reality has become a snowball rolling down hill and it can't be stopped.

P.S. I'm ready and waiting to play Assassin's Creed in a 100% immersive VR environment. :)
