Why do I get this?

After a near recent formatting, of my laptop, I have been getting the following notice upon each and every start up:

'Setup is preparing your computer for first time use'.

I have no idea why this is happening, and hope someone might have an answer.

..........................................................................................................

Also happening ever since the mentioned formatting, there is a box that pops up which has a heading of 'System Preparation Tool 3.14'. It states:

'System Preparation Tool (Sysprep) prepares the machine for hardware independence and cleanup
(OOBE)
'.

Clicking on the chevron will reveal at least one other choice, but I don't recall what it is (now reading the info from a screenshot that I had taken, with intent to attach it to this message, but I apparently didn't have enough space left to do so).

Not knowing what this message is about, I opted to select nothing - and just cancel the window out.

But I DO wish that I knew WHY it continually pops up at each booting.

Sounds like the reinstall didn't go very well. What laptop do you have? Did you use recovery cd's or how did you reinstall?

Thanks for responding, John.

My laptop is a Sony VAIO (PCG-81112M) unit. It was a gift made to me, over the past summer, by a very good friend of mine (after learning that my desktop had given out on me). There were no restoration disks provided and, after a bit of research, I learned that I could effectuate a system recovery by the utilization of a command brought up by depressing the F10 key, at booting.

I would try doing the reinstall. However, there should be an option to create recovery cd's, I would create them and use them to install again, not the recovery partition.

I didn't notice that option being there, but it isn't to say that it wasn't. I may have just glanced right over it. Though, even if I HAD seen it I think that I would have bypassed it. Why? Because of (then) being of the frame of mindset that an integrated recovery option would have been better than an optical drive pulling data from a disk. But I now gather, from what you have suggested, that a recovery partition may not be the way to go - and I will heed your suggestion.

If that recovery CD creation option isn't there, I guess that the next course of action would be for me to purchase a new OS disk. Not only would I gain an upgraded operating system, but (and more importantly) I would have an installation disk which would serve for any future formatting/recovery needs.

Been up all night, farting around with my laptop, and about to crash. When I awaken, I will see what's available under that F10 button. I will post back as soon as I know.

Thanks, again.

You can actually create your own install cd from the ISO file, assuming you have windows 7 or 8. Or you can order recovery cd's from the manufacturer so that you have all the custom bloatware it had originally.

Creating recovery cd's should be under VAIO care.
