Upgrade my desktop. Any suggestions please?

These are my specs for the current desktop I use.
I wish to upgrade it to play games on high-ultra setting. I was thinking about to upgrade some parts and not the whole desktop to save as much money as I can. Any help please?


CPU Intel core i5 4690 @ 3.50Ghz
Haswell 22nm Technology

RAM 8.00GB DDR3

Motherboard ECS B85H3-M3

Graphics ZOTAC GTX 760 2047MB

Storage SSD 129GB
WD 465GB

Thats a good budget, depending on what you may need.. check that PSU first so we know what we are working with power wise.

As far as GPU, lots of options, plus brand new offerings from both Nvidia and AMD are coming very soon!

Okay, we can talk about that later on... but figuring out which PSU and wattage you have and then upgrading your GPU is gonna be where you want to start

Ah cool I'm in Eastern Canada so only like 11-12 hour difference haha.. not a problem, though.. post back whenever you get home and we can get you some ideas to move you forward.
 
Is your PC case ATX or mATX? If it's mATX you may be a little tight for space so I might also suggest getting a bigger case to accommodate a bigger graphics card. Depending what case you have now, a larger graphics card might be a bit of a tight squeeze!

I'd suggest upgrading your RAM to 16GB and getting a faster GPU. Just need to find out what PSU you have. If you could just post a photo of your PC here with the side panel taken off that would be good. :)
 
Yeah, as @spirit mentioned, a picture of the rig would be good, give us case info,

To answer the other question above, the type of PSU needed depends on GPU ..

EXample: If you had a 350Watt ebay special and wanted to upgrade to a 980GTX you would NOT be able to do that.

So, figuring out the current PSU is step 1.

I personally would remove that power supply and throw it in the nearest dumpster. Then pick up one that isn't going to burn your rig to the ground. Alot on here recommend Corsair units as they have tremendous warranty and the build quality and specs are excellent on even their entry level units.

As for the GPU upgrade, Nvidia just announced their brand new GTX1070 and GTX1080 and the specs and prices look extremely awesome!!

Check this THREAD for info regarding these new cards!

I guess I'll wait for the 1070 or 1080 and change the power. At least what power should I need?

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure i've seen a few different answers to that, I believe the 1080 has a single 8pin for the power... Maybe someone else can chime in here on a sufficient PSU for someone looking into a GTX 1080..or the 1070 for that matter?

I'm seeing 500W recommended by Nvidia,.. I'd look at maybe a 600-650W to be safe... just my 2 cents ..
