We recently went from 40MHz to 20MHz 802.11ac in the office I was tempted to change it just for the test, but not worth it lol.

Tell the places you are going that their network is subpar

300 was more specific from him using a 802.11ac client, it tends to fall a little short unless you are using wider channels like 40 MHz.

When we run multi-gig to our APs, I'll throw it on 160MHz and see if I can break 1Gbps

We're paying $60/mo to TWC for 30mbps down, 5mbps up. I'd love something faster than that, even though it's pretty great considering my life up to now has been all 15mbps or less through dial-up or broadband rather than cable or fiber.

CinciBell offers 100mbps down and 20mbps up for $69.99/mo. But thanks to where I live, neither CinciBell or TWC has ran fiber out here, so CinciBells best offer at my location is 5mbps down "Zoomtown" broadband speeds.

I got one of those aircard dongle things from Freedompop, it's nice that you can reach those speeds but you can also burn through your entire 500 MB allocation in just over a minute..
