which Intel for gaming?

Hi there. I was looking at getting an I7 6700k for my new gaming rig that I'll get soon when the money comes in. However with the amount of money coming in that might be a tad steep in price. So I was looking at an I5 6600k, but after looking at some game requirements Forza, which yes is the most demanding game I have seen so far (horizon 3), recommends an I7 4790 which seems to benchmark not too much less than the 6600k based on userbenchmark.com. Also game debate recommends the I5 6600k for battlefield 1. I can cut some corners to afford the I7 6700k possibly as long as the motherboard for it isn't also a lot steeper. Like I'm selling my current machine but the buyer has a new 500GB hd so I could just let her use that and keep my two 1TB hd's for now instead of buying new with that. Also don't really need an aftermarket cooler nor do I need a DVD drive right away, mind you those are $25. Anyways I'm in Canada so what do you recommend so it's good for a few years with overclocking? While being budget friendly? Thanks. I also use Ableton live a bit so a good processor for that wouldn't hurt either, but gaming is a much higher priority. Also wondering if I could get the I7 6700k on this motherboard. Thanks.

here's what I have so far:

Do you have a spare one? I don't believe the Skylake CPUs come with one.

Gamewise the 6600K should be plenty but there are already a few games that use >4 primary threads where an I7 or higher core count CPU would benefit.

Hey man, any reason you chose a C232 chipset mobo?

Why not go with Z170?

And yeah, you need an aftermarket cooler, the 6600K doesn't come with a stock unit!

ok thanks would I be using the same z170 motherboard (which is the same price anyways) to support a high end I7 as well?

Which specific Z170 motherboard are you referring to? Quite a few options in the price range of the one you first picked!!

Here are a few you might like, I know people with both the MSI and the ASUS and both are great boards in my eyes. I linked to Newegg, but it very well might be cheaper to go to MX in person, no shipping.,.etc

Asus

Gigabyte

MSI

The i5 should be fine if you need to save money. What's more important is a strong GPU. Whilst a strong CPU is a necessity, the performance really lies in the GPU.

I agree.

I'd spend the extra on RAM and Motherboard if anything..

A solid board and plenty of RAM will put you in good stead for the future. You'll be able to play Forza with an i5 and a good graphics card.

The reason why Horizon 3 suggests an i7 is because it uses more than 4 threads. While it'll run fine on an i5... they suggest an i7.

Buying used is not such a bad idea. I got my 4790K last summer for 1/2 price BNIB off some guy I met online and I picked up a cheap Z97 board and built my current system.
