I bought a 2nd hand laptop and have to "recover" to get it to boot up

If you created the usb using the microsoft tool, you don't need to use rufus. Insert your usb into the pc and select usb as your first boot device. Follow the prompts to install windows.

No prompts coming up just text ending in C:\> when I press enter it repeats it next line ????!
Took it out restarted its Installing by itself

Boot from the USB, tap any key when prompted, begin the installer, delete all partitions on the C: and install Windows.

It Booted up good for the first time this morning, real quickly. I lost Office though as well as all the crapware, had my suspicions it wasn't legit. Thanks guys.

On a fresh install, you will lose everything. Thats the whole idea so you can start FRESH!!!
