Looking to buy first SSD no more than $55 250GB or Above, help suggestions?

Looking to buy my first SSD for $55 new or Used (eBay) with Warranty looking for 250GB or above if it were possible.

I don't know the different variables and SSD standards so was hoping you guys could give me some suggestions.

Thanks

ADATA SU800 256GB $52.99

ADATA SX850 256GB $44.99

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820215168&cm_re=SX850-_-20-215-168-_-Product

The SX850 is much newer and appears to have a similar controller. Both would be excellent OS drives.

Awesome thank you. I'll have some to pick from. Can you give me your thoughts on this one as well?

Yes or No.

No. I would advise against purchasing the A400 at all costs. Read below:

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsa..._a400_ssd_240gb_sata_3_25_solid_state/e8dxa9i

The A400 doesn't have DRAM or SLC cache and coupled with 2D TLC, meaning it has very slow read/ writes - comparable to a hard disk. It also has a very low endurance rating.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up I would have had no idea other wise. I retracted the Bid from eBay. Thanks again.

Question. I am honestly on a very tight budget, I know it sounds bad I don't wanna spend above $50 on a computer part but do you think you can find some good SSD choices on eBay. New Only please? Maybe there's some cheaper deals on there.

Thank you much.

I found the A400 for $25 on eBay but retracted the Bid since you posted the link.

Are you just using the SSD to put Windows on?

Yes but would like some space to install a few games on it as well. So I really want a 240GB SSD can't afford something bigger at the moment.

Most games really aren't going to benefit massively from being on an SSD. I wouldn't worry about throwing games on it, especially since you're on a tight budget, or maybe just throw a game that would benefit the most (GTA V, for example).

I scanned through eBay a little bit, but this is the best I could find, same price on eBay:

The MX500 is the only drive below your $55 price range that would slightly outperform the SU800/ SX850.

If you can wait, the prices will likely keep dropping. SSD prices are at an all time low; now is a good time to buy. But in your price range, unless a crazy deal comes along, the MX500, SU800, and SX850 will be your absolute best choices.

If any one of those drives or a better drive comes up cheaper/ on sale, I'll let you know if I see it.

Alright last question for now hope you don't mind helping me I got no idea about SSD and SSD performance.
One SSD Option

Second SSD Option
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820215325&ignorebbr=1

What you think about these? are they decent? I heard of the ADATA brand before but not Team Group L5 LITE

The SU650 drive doesn't have DRAM, but it has SLC cache with 3D TLC. This can be a problem because once the SLC cache is exhausted, the drive will slow below hard disk speeds.

The Team group drive most likely has DRAM buffer, but unsure about SLC cache. So it's a mixed bag.

Adata over the Teamgroup but I would choose this one.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820156187

I would advise against the BX500. No DRAM buffer, it may have SLC cache. Not good for an OS drive. Also, for only $3 more the 256GB SX850 has DRAM, SLC cache, and competes with the more expensive EVO drives. The BX500 is much slower, and once the SLC cache is fully exhausted, it will slow to a crawl.

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsa...l_bx500_480gb_3d_nand_sata_25inch_ssd/e54xmk2

https://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Crucial-BX500-240GB-vs-Adata-SX850-256GB/m578496vsm386831

The Team Group would hands down be better than the BX500, but again, the Team drive is $37, and the SX850 is $45. Saving a few dollars in this scenario wouldn't be worth it.

I'll send you a very lightly used 512g Samsung 850 Pro for $50 if you want. I pulled it out of an office we were decommissioning and would otherwise have been thrown away. Doesn't have a warranty but it'd be hard to find something better in that price range.

I don't think I would get it right now but thank you for the offer.

I am bidding on a few SSD's on eBay. Will see what happens.

I mean heck what if it fails in the next 6 months? Then I am Out of Luck. I honestly want to buy something with a little warranty, at least 1 year.

Understandable.

The MX500 and SX850 have 5 year warranties. The SU800 has 3 years. The Team Group has 3 years.

Although your chances of an SSD failing are low. Probably much lower than a hard disk.

Sounds bad don't it? and I know In my OG post I said $55 right? Well I am on a very tight budget (I am an Adult) and I honestly don't need an SSD but I wanted to upgrade my Computer. Never owned an SSD before so it was a good upgrade. Truthfully though I would love to get a bargain for $35 despite having stated $55 on the Original Post.
For 2 reasons:
#1 My Budget is limited, is not something I really need anyway, but would like an upgrade
#2 $35 for an SSD is a sweet spot its like bargain hunting and you finally find something good. Saving those extra $5 really makes a difference for me.

So if I could I update my OG Post and say "Looking for SSD no more than $35" That's what I would say. Why am I driven that it is possible to find a 240GB SSD for $35? because I found several on eBay just not sure which one is good and what to pick. I'll post links below, maybe we can get to the end of this thread by finding something that's even worth $35 haha lol.

I don't know anything about SLC and DRAM on SSD, is something new to me and don't know the difference, however your explanations above are very clear and direct so I understand what you mean. I also did watch a Video on Youtube explaining this today but still need help. Would hate to have 5 choices to pick from for $35 and buying the worst one just because I didn't know the difference.

So I am going to refine my eBay search and post some links. There's always new stuff being posted on eBay daily so there's always more chances.

Note some of the Links say $40 but was going to make an offer to seller.

This is all eBay has for $40 (Best Offer) and Under for 250GB
