WIndows 10 Window Search problem

I have been having issue with the search, particularly in Outlook emails. When I popped the search option panel, it would not allow me to go into the Advance tab. So I cannot do the rebuilt index. Tried everyway like restarting Windows Search in services and didn't work.

According to MS Support, I downloaded a file to reset the search. But the instruction told me to Run with PowerShell . But when I right click on the file, there is no option on Run with PowerShell. If I just double click it, it would open the script in Note.

How do I execute "run with PowerShell"?

Thank you for downloading Reset Windows Search PowerShell

If your download does not start after 30 seconds,

Installation note:
In the following Install Instructions, please start at the step after the mention of clicking the Download button.
Install Instructions
    • If the Windows 10 May 2019 Update or a later update is installed, use Windows PowerShell to reset Windows Search. To do this, follow these steps.

NoteYou must have administrator permissions to run this script.
      1. Click the Download button and save ResetWindowsSearchBox.ps1 to a local folder.
      2. Right-click the file that you saved, and select Run with PowerShell.
      3. If you are asked "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?," select Yes.
      4. The PowerShell script resets the Windows Search feature. When the word "Done" appears, close the PowerShell window.

If you access where you saved that file and right click on it, the second option is to run with powershell. Unless you file associations are screwed up. If you double click it, it should automatically run in powershell.

Double click on the file itself opens it in Note.

I figured out how to run it. It is not pretty.

I created a separate folder (tempResetSearch) and drag the file inside it. I highlighted the folder and Shift+RightClick and there is an option to "Open PowerCell Window". When the PowerCell window opens, it is like a cmd window and when I do a dir, the reset file is there. To run that file, I have to put a dot and a backslash (.\) in front of the file name to run it.

The MS Support page is very helpful too.

Took a long time to update the computer. Now it boots up and I am able to go into the search option to rebuild the index. I think it was fixed.

Actually so does mine. Thought I checked yesterday and it said open with powershell.

As you can see psc1 will open with powershell but not the ps1. But I downloaded that file to my downloads folder and went to it and I have the option to open with powershell if I right click it. Either way it looks like you are back in business again.
