New ram caused BSOD

Hello

I decided to update my laptop:
ASUS ROG GL702VSK
Intel Core i7 7700HQ
12 GB Ram
1TB HDD
GTX 1070

I'm not specialist from that kind of staff. So I educated myself online. I found out that crucial company has tool to scan your system and suggest possible updates. I trusted results and replaced my hdd with 1TB SAMSUNG 870 QVO SATA III 2.5" and also added Crucial P5 1TB 3D NAND NVMe. I also replaced 12 GB ram with 32 GB ram. I reinstall Windows 10, everything was fine till suddenly i got BSODs coming out of nowhere. Beside that system sometimes randomly was freezing. I couldn't figured out what was wrong. One of my friends suggested to replace new ram with old one and see if problem will still occur. So I did what he said. I replaced my new ram with my old one and seems like there is no more issues.

Before replacing new RAM with old one I run memory test and everything was ok. Looks like I bought wrong RAM. I'm really upset because crucial website suggested it and i trusted them.

Im sending you guys picture of my old RAM 8 GB and one of new 16 GB. Could you guys please tell me what was wrong with those new 16GB and send me amazon link to 2x 16 GB ram that will fit my laptop and won't cause any issue.

Thank you so much for future help

and the new RAM is non-ECC where-as the old RAM is.
I just search both ram and they both come up non-ecc.

My guess it that there may be a speed limitation here. That machine has specs only up to 19200/2400mhz where as you have installed 3200mhz.

Or the new ram has errors on it.

Could you guys please tell me what was wrong with those new 16GB and send me amazon link to 2x 16 GB ram that will fit my laptop and won't cause any issue.
I would order these. https://www.amazon.com/G-SKILL-Ripj...ill+2400mhz+32gb+sodimm&qid=1633413220&sr=8-2

Hello

Thank you guys for you help.

How did you test the new RAM if it doesn't work in your laptop?

Well so blue screen didn't show up right away. Usually it was happening within like 15 min or when I was for example installing google chrome, or antivirus. Then blue screen would popped and after I restart my computer, I put my password and that was it. Computer was freezing off and i really couldn't do anything. I was then reinstalling my windows again and try different things. But nothing was helping.

In one of those moments when bsod didn't popped (or maybe in safe mode) I was able to perform "mdsched" scan. So my computer restart and perform that test with blue background. It took a while and it said that memory had no issues.

What blue screens are you getting?

I got bunch of different one. I remember "watchdog timeout", ""system service (i think?), then eventually one repeated "whea uncorrectable error". And right after first blue screen showed, my computer was really done. I was able to restart it but then after I put password to log in into my desktop, computer was freezing or again throwing bsod.

My guess it that there may be a speed limitation here. That machine has specs only up to 19200/2400mhz where as you have installed 3200mhz.

I always thought that I can put faster ram but then motherboard will just limited RAM speed to the one that is limited to.

So I should be good with that 2400mhz ram? I really would like to get this shi* done.

Thank you so much for your answers guys. I really do appreciated your help. I hope you guys can understand everything. English is my second language.

Some machines might have problems with faster ram.

if you are able to get into windows you can do the following and post the bluescreens.

Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

I will just return those ram and buy different one.

I found also these:

Seems like beside 16gb they have exactly same specs like the 8gb of old ram I had. What do you guys think about those?

Edit.
I guess they are 2rx8 not 1rx8, like that 8gb. Is that matter? I'm trying to get the one as close as possible to the one that currently work well.

Going from 12 to 16gb probably won't help much. Are you sure you even need more ram? When you are doing the most memory intensive thing, how much memory is being used? If you are above 80 percent usage then would upgrade. You can check this by using the task manager.

I planning to buy two of those samsung 16gb so it will be total of 32gb. As long as you guys think those samsung one are ok? They look literally the same with specs beside 2rx8 instead of 1rx8. I want to max out my ram so there is no any slow downs. I'm not running crazy things but it's just my thing. I wanted to upgrade my laptop and one of those things include 32gb ram. It's just my whim and thing I always wanted to have lol Do I have green lights about those samsung ram from you guys?

Do you have an SSD installed? An ssd would dramatically increase your speed more than what ram would. But it seems that ram would work for you.

You do realize you are spending about 30 dollars more buying 2 sets of 16gb compared to buying a dual channel kit of 32gb? $108 vs $139 Just trying to save you money. You should always buy matching sticks, if you are getting 2 sticks then its always best buying the dual channel kits as they are guaranteed to work together. If you buy single sticks, they might not play nice together. Which may be your original issue if you didn't buy a dual channel kit.

Gskill has really good ram, I use it all the time in my clients builds as I build and troubleshoot computers for the past 25 years.

Well, I guess you are right. I'm not trying to discuss cuz I don't know shi* compare to you. I'm just worry that again I will buy something that won't match. I hate wasting time. I like to go the way I planned and when shi* hit the fan, it's upsets me and then I'm trying to get staff done asap. I shouldn't be discussing that. I will trust you and go with those gskills. I will lyk guys as soon as possible how did it go. Thank you again.

All set:

I was going off the samsung page, however it is possible I typoed the ## on the stick, I loaded up the samsung page for it again and it does not list ecc so probably.

Ok so looks like that g.skill ram works perfect. I played some game that has pretty decent computer requirements, use internet, watched movies. No issues. Thank you so much johnb35.
