I got a controller card .. and i got a IDE hardisk connected to it .. my mobo cant detect the hdd when i try to format it i'll encounter the problem of hdd not connected press f3 to quit .. can someone hlep me with this ?

Your board is properly detecting the controller but not the drive itself? Any controller card is run by loading drivers from a primary or host drive. Usually that is an internal drive set as the master or first boot device. For this you most likely need to boot the system by another means like a startup floppy or even a preprepared boot cd in order to see those loaded.

u got it right .. but the problem is .. i dont know how to prepare the boot cd .. but i got a driver cd that is provided when i got the controller ..

One way right off the top is to copy or burn the drivers to the boot disk along with the essential boot files. A floppy is a little limited on space where a cd-r burned with the iso image for the OS(XP) you are running plus loading the drivers simultaneously would see this done. You would need a cd writer in order to create a custom boot cd. For the boot iso needed http://www.bootdisk.com

If you have a cd burner without the software BurnOn has worked well here and is a freeware found at http://www.burnworld.com/burnoncddvd/

Ignore the entire previous post. That's like driving 400 miles out of your way because you forgot to buy a map.

When you are installing Windows, you will see in the bottom left hand corner where it will say "Press F6 if you have a SCSI device" or something to that effect. Press F6. It will take a minute or two for something to happen, so be patient.

After a couple of minutes you will be prompted to insert the (floppy) disk and press a key. Windows will load the driver automatically and setup will continue.

That's all there is to it.

What is your problem with PC Eye? Every time you reply to anything he says it is insults, insults, insults

This isn't a SCSI drive, that will do absolutely nothing

Insert what floppy disk? He doesn't have one.

Why are you using an IDE controller? Are your internal IDE ports filled? What you may need to do is install windows on an IDE drive attached to the motherboard, install the drivers for the IDE controller, and then transfer the drive onto the controller.

Gee? That idea didn't work so well with a SATA drive when using a drive floppy. The XP installer still failed to detect the drive while clearly seen in the post tests. Explain that one.

i just upgrade my system so my sis is incorrect .. sorry about that . i tried doing that but either my hdd or drive has to be connected to the IDE controller ...

It is intended for all types of controller cards. It just says SCSI (or was that RAID? Maybe it was RAID). Trust me. I've done hundreds of XP installs. It works.

Insert what floppy disk? He doesn't have one.

So make one. How hard can it be?

What difference does it make? I'm sure if he wants our opinions he'll ask for them. ;)

What you may need to do is install windows on an IDE drive attached to the motherboard, install the drivers for the IDE controller, and then transfer the drive onto the controller

You're as bad as PC Eye... All he has to do is have that floppy ready and VOILA!! Problem solved. It's the same with SATA controllers. It would seriously suck if everyone had to follow the same crappy advice. :( Hell, I would never make any money for having to go through silly install procedures just to get Windows to work. Ugh. Blech.

Well yeah. It doesn't take a genius to figure that one out. The card has it's own BIOS on it. Of course it's going to detect the drive. Every controller card I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot of them) has it's own BIOS and does it's own drive detection.

XP, on the other hand, has no idea what to do with that controller. It needs to be told what to do with it. How? By loading the driver by pressing F6.

I'm surprised you don't know this stuff. You're supposed to be the tech.

Blurblock: I don't think that the guy knows what he's talking about I'm afraid. Unless it's on Google, he's lost. Anyways, if you look on the CD it should be in a sub directory. You will see a {filename}.inf file. Maybe a couple of files in the same directory. Copy all of them to a floppy and have it ready for when the system prompts you to press F6.

It's up to you. You can take his word for it or you can take mine.

What floppy? The drivers are on a CD.

Do you ever shut up about him?

thz alot but .inf file ? are they application ? or system file ? im really dont know which file i'll need .. this like a mess inside the CD

thz alot but u mind giving step by step help on how to create a bootdisk ?

Never mind SirKenin. If you don't have a floppy drive installed on the system there you will have to create a bootable cd to load the needed drivers. The problem there would be the need to boot from the XP installation disk at the same time. If you have a floppy drive you can download a boot image and add the drivers to the floppy itself. The instructions provided along with the download link for boot images can be found at http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
