Well.. i just came home again from a Lan.. and i won a contest there.. :o
I won a X2 4800+ :) so i dont think i'll be buying a fx-60 now,.. instead I'll see how far i can get with this one then.
anyone of you know's if X2's are good overclockers? i mean.. the fx-60 is basicly the same processor,.. it just has unlocked multiepliers.

this is weird..
huh.jpg

i cant select the 2nd core in Cpu-z.. is something wrong, or is that normal?

It says the stepping in CPU-z.....

Thats very odd, maybe one core is broken? lol. Well, it does say you have 2 cores. Maybe thats just how the new CPU-z is, maybe it doesnt mean CORE maybe it means actual processor.

On the top of the processor, there's a load of letters and numbers. The second line (resembles XXXXX XXXXXXXX) pretty much tells you what overclock to expect.

AMD Geeks is basically a large database of overclocks and the steppings on the CPU

My X2 goes to 260mhz fsb with stock cooling (using a thermal pad) and loads at 51c.

I still think my P4 was the best overclocker. From 2.6ghz to 3.54ghz on stock cooling without thermal compound or a pad : ).

well.. i do see 2 load screens in the task manager from windows.. well.. its a shame i dont know anything about what im supposed to get with a dual core CPU. but i'll have a look how far i can get with overclocking it :)

( that is if the CPU is working fully correctly ofcourse )

Thats just CPU-z : ). The cpu is fine.

But you must remember one important thing when OCing AMD cpus!!! The HT does not OC well, thats why when you raise the fsb, be sure to lower the HT multi from 5 to 4 or even to 3 if you go above 250mhz fsb.

on my 3000+ i had the HT on 1200MHz all the time.. but this one doesnt seem to OC much... keeps resetting the bios.. :(
i gues im doing something wrong with the RAM timings atm.. just havnt fully figured this one out.

What kind of mobo is it? I know i had problems with mine resetting too, and mine is an ASUS with an nForce 4 chipset. Since everything is auto, it likes to set it back to auto. I had to change certain settings to prevent it from doing so.

Great job on winning! What exactly did you win anyways?

Case modding.. :o everyone had pre build cases, and some lighted Fan's in it. my case wasnt the prettyest one,.. but it was the most original/functional one. ( Remember that Stainles steel grid in the side panel :) ) well.. i sprayed my case a bit, and putted some vinyl's on it,
( i gues the fact that i was the only girl there helped a bit too.. :P )

I need to customize my case.......good thing i get paid today! lol.

Lets see.....$800 on computer components.....$2,000 in LEDs and fans and whatever else makes it look pretty.

Yup, i think thats about right. lol We all know that LEDs add like a couple hundred more mhz!

You should get a new video card before spending $2K on mods :P

LOL. Well, im waiting for the next gen cards, for DX10 before i go spending $500-$600 on the best card.

Be prepared to wait at least 3-4 months, or possibly more. Why don't you get a mid-level card, like the 7600GT in the meantime. I'm sure you dont like playing games on low-medium settings, lol

This card actually will play games at their max settings, just at lower resolutions and without AA. Lowest iv had to go on this card but still have the graphics cranked up is 1024x768, which is enough for me. And it shouldnt be 4 months, i heard it was only gonna be 2.

1) Put memory on a divider, so it runs at/under 200MHz.
2) Make sure HT runs at/below 1000MHz.

If you don't boot with the overclock, increase the chipset voltage.
If you DO boot up, but it is unstable, increase the core voltage.

If increasing a voltage doesnt help, try increasing both a notch.

Once you find the need to start dramatically increasing voltages, increase FSB by 1 at a time to find your actual highest clock.

If increasing both doesnt help, you've gone as far as you possibly can.
