What do you think is the best computer you could build for about $1000 to $1500? Just anything you could think of amd, intel nvidea or ati, or mabey a custom case. What would be the most complicated set up that would run the best?

intel core 2 duo,an X1900XT,a nice motherboard, maybe 2gb of some good ram, possibly an SLI config instead of an ATI card...really..thats alotta cash that can provide an awesome computer.

2x 1024mb ddr2 800 mhz RAM dual channel
650 watt quad rail power supply

can anyone do better?

You could get alot better, give me a sec to config.

Mobo:GIGABYTE GA-965G-DS3
Ram:CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB)DDR2-800
Video:Sapphire Radeon X1900XT
PSU:ENERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT ATX12V 500W
Hard drive:Western Digital Caviar 250GB
Case:Thermaltake Tsunami Black ATX Mid
Opt.1:Sony Dvd/CD reader/writer
Opt.2:SONY Black 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM

Why go with that processor? A Core 2 Duo would perform MUCH better. Any why get four hard drives? Not a very good build, sorry.

I would go for a PC, way better performance ecspecially with such a nice budget.

AMDs out perform intels for gaming, and four hard drives is faster than 1.

The average seek time on an hitachi sata 300 is 8.5ms, with a raid config it is even faster

AMDs out perform intels for gaming,
Prove it, go away and look at some recent benchmarks, emphasis on the intel core 2 duo (stock) beating an overclocked FX-60. Stop living in the past ya fanboy.

and four hard drives is faster than 1.
Thats completely circumstancial. What hard drives, what arrangement, prove it, pick out the 4 drives and the 1 drive and physically prove it. It may be the case, but still, that comment meant nothing and wasnt backed up at all.

*EDIT* - and stop double posting it annoys people such as the admins and mods. theres an big edit button there for a reason

I prefer hitachi hard drives they are a bit faster and I still think that a raid config is faster than one hard drive. also I like amd because of the link above. and I could probly get a sli mb for $150 just to leave room to expand.

Dude...you're being ignorant, the core 2 duos are faster than the Amd X2s...the config i posted would beat out one with an X2 proc.

My bad your right, sorry about that.

I just alwas thought that Amd was better than intel for gaming and intel was better for multitasking...

Well Amd's X2s arent very new...the core 2 duos are the newest processors out right now, therefore they are faster, and by a very noticeable amount.
