7600GT vs X850XT

Maroon, the benchmarks in the first link also seem to be wrong, since according to that, a single X1900XTX outperforms two 1900XT's in CF in HL2.

Isn't that right, though? sometimes CF/Sli actually slows down games instead of speeds it up..

I know for a fact that HL2 works great in SLI mode, and when I looked at other benchies, CF and SLI improved HL2 alot.

no, I don't think that, but as I know that SLI and CF doesn't give a high framerate per second, the X1900xt in CF got 92.0 framerate per second in HL2 at 1280x1024, but I think if you increase the resolution the 1900xt in CF will get more framerate per second than 1900xtx

Ya, that's basically what I mean. There are isolated cases where Crossfire or Sli hinders FPS instead of helps them. Like at lower quality games. They run like at 80FPS instead of 100FPS, not that it makes any difference..:)

true... i just installed HL2,.. ran the CS:S performance test, and i got 174,3fps out of that test :)

So to enable HDR you have to have a GPU that features SM3 like the 7600GT?

That's weird, cuz i remember i installed Lost Coast for HL2 when it first came out, turned on HDR, and played it on my 9600XT. I saw a huge difference in the lighting systems. Now that there are HDR CS:S maps out, i play those as well, and can see the lighting effects. But maybe its just a simplifled version of the actual SM3 feature...

Either way, i'm a graphics whore, so i think i'll go with the 7600GT since it has SM3. That way i can enjoy more detail on Oblivion and UT2007 when it comes out

but shoot... it looks like they only come in PCI-E

the 7600GS perhaps? ( I dont know how the performs compared to the x850xt pe tough.. and im too lazy atm to go and look :P )

If you need an AGP card that supports SM3 that is under $150, then the highest end card would be the 7600GS. However, you wouldn't be able to enable SM3 most likely in higher graphics games, solely because even though the card supports it, it wouldn't have enough power to provide decent framerates.

It's funny, though, because Newegg.com doesn't sell anything higher than a X800GTO or Pro on the Ati side of things. So, you have to decide if you want to upgrade to PCI-E or buy a slower graphics card. Of course, the third option would be to buy a 7800GS, the best AGP card sold on newegg, however a bit overpriced at $210.

you have no idea how lucky you american's are... $210 for a 7800GS overpriced.. hmmz.. the 7900GTX pci-e costs 540 euro here.
the 7950GT2X 699 euro.. and the cheapest 7800GS is 260 euro

and for the note. 1.00 EUR = 1.25395 USD
so you can immagine :D

Nope, I use HDR on my SM2 x850XT PE AGP card.

X850xt can run HDR but not in all games. For example, Oblivion and farcry needs SM3.0 card to run HDR. So, you will not able to run HDR with X850xt in these games.

I havent tried either with this card. But you can't run HDR in the majority of games with the 7600GT either if you also have FSAA enabled.

just got one of those, its ok.... oc'd a lot... runs oblivion on high setting (no AA) just fine :).

... puff... what was that........ that was the sound of any hope of doing work disappearing

true. I think if i sell my 2 7800GTX's now,.. i could get about 350 euro for them together ($440.. so it wouldnt really be worth selling them for me :) )
besides.. they are still really nice performers. so i cant complain yet :D

Please search before you post and don't just threw words like that.

7600GT can run HDR in any game. Also the geforce 6 series can run HDR in any game.

Can you tell me just one game that 7600GT can't run HDR in it ?

I have 6600 and I can run HDR in oblivion, and FAR CRY.

Sorry, I worded that wrong. An nVidia card can't run HDR and FSAA at the same time.

nVidia can't run FP16 HDR + FSAA, but it can run integer HDR + FSAA.
The source engine that is used in HL2 episode1 uses integer HDR, and thats why nvidia can run HDR + FSAA in HL2 episode1.
