Well, I know that the new socket F will be used in Amd's new 4x4. But yes I really don't know the answer to your question. lol sorry

That will be the new Socket LGA type board with 1,207 pins. That will run some newer dual cored as well as the new quad cored models coming out. This will mainly be a server class board. The new boards will also be running the soon to come DDR3 type memory.

This will be an upgrade over the Socket 940 there shady. This will mostly be a slightly larger sized chip as well. Just a look at some screens of it seem to point that out.

The boards themselves were scheduled for july 11th and pushed by AMD to the beginning of August according to some articles. One of those articles also had a report on the AM2 boards possibly being discontinued. Gee I'm glad I went with the 939 type board for the time being. That was found at http://www.techreport.com/onearticle.x/10192

Not the AM2 boards or processors, just the 1mb L2 X2s

They are directing everything towards the Opteron and FX models at this point leaving nothing new and high end for the AM2 boards. The 2mb L2 quad cores are coming :D while the 1mb L2 AM2s will be at a loss.

Thats what I said! Thats not what you said. But then again who knows!

Advanced Micro Devices, the world’s No. 2 maker of x86 central processing units (CPUs), plans to supply nearly 100% of its microprocessors in AM2 form-factor by the end of the fourth quarter this year, according to the company’s recent desktop processor update document.

By the end of the year AMD will not produce processors for socket 939 at all, whereas socket 754 chips will account for less than 5% of the company’s output, according to the company’s transition plans. The vast majority of chips – over 95% – will be designed for socket AM2 infrastructure. It is interesting to note that the company did not include any share of its new AMD Athlon 64 FX processors for its 4x4 platform into the document describing socket transitions."

As most of us know Socket AM3 was planned to introduce together with AMD’s next-generation K8L architecture as well as the new Quad Core, recent news from the industry tells AMD has changed its mind. Sources said Socket AM3 is postponed to mid-2008, and that the new socket AM2+, an upgrade version to AM2, is now introduced to the new K8L processors and Quad Core instead of AM3. Friends from the industry said AM3 will be available till the market of DDR3 is well developed, a kind of passive strategy.

According to the previous plan, K8L processors as well as the new Quad Core are both based on Socket AM3 with build-in DDR2/3 memory controller, and are compatible with the existing AM2 main board. Yet AMD has decided to postpone AM3 as they reviewed the market trend of DDR3 memory."

That's nice. But if I want to review articles on this I simply go to the following links for full coverage.

Gee the quad core models won't be seen on an AM2 board with DDR2 memory. It seems they will see the AM3 with DDR3 instead in late 2007 or 2008. I already expected 939 to go to the recycle bin soon enough anyways.

You have the 4X4 and Quad core mixed up. the AMD AM2-AM2+ and AM3 procesors will run on a AM2 board but the 4X4 will most likey be a Socket F, if you have a 939 your going to be left out in the cold!

The quad cores will be primarily seen on server boards. That's the direction there with some newer dual cored FX models on the way for ??? Those won't be for the 4x4 platform apparently.
