I'm pretty sure, just stick your operating system disc into the CD tray and reboot and it should boot off the disc and install.

what about reformatting the hard drive?

Are you upgrading or building from scratch? I remember in my class when my instructor installed Vista, he reformatted the hard drive during the installation.

If your hard drive is brand new I'm pretty sure you reformat it when installing Windows XP.
