I think it's stupid timing from Intel, AMD is preparing for the big hit, Intel just threw all it's cards at a very short period of time.
That's why AMD stays on top for a longer time.

Im not so sure if its a dumb move.. AMD's quad cores are better (spec wise. ) so if they would bring them out on the same time.. everyone would go for AMD. the only way for intel to make sales of it now, is for the peole who dont know much about pc's, and really want to get a pc with 4CPU's now =)
i know... it's a pretty narrow view of me.. but i think this is the way intel is thinking atm. :)

That just goes to show how little mutli-threading goes on in games these days, the X6800 outperformes the QX6800 in many games.

You mean it outperforms the QX6700? That would make sense since, as you say, multi-threaded games aren't properly out yet, and it operates at a lower clock speed...

My bad, yes the X6800 outperforms the QX6700 in many of the games. See for yourself:

EDIT: I just realized you were agreeing with me, haha. I quickly read your statement and thought you said it didnt make sense.

Hehe, yeah. I would imagine that once multi-threaded games become mainstream, the QX6700 would woop the X6800's arse...

By the looks of it, Intel released more then one model, unless XBit labs just received the Q6600 early. If thats true, then maybe i'll upgrade to the Q6600 :)

So with all this talk about Intel Quad Core's, what does AMD plan on doing? I havnet heard too much from AMD.

They're releasing a true quad-core, called 4x4. I beleive that its planned release date is the second quarter of 2007, according to this link:

However, if I know AMD, they're gonna be extremely expensive, by which time the Kentsfields will have been out for a while, and the prices will have dropped.

You can sure AMD will find a way to "bounce back" as the expression goes. What AMD has done all along is focus on performance not clock speed. This is why AMD has always been known as the "gamer's choice" for cpus. :D

I think what everyone is getting confused about on the initial introductions of Quad core models is their main purpose will be for. The AMD Quads will be mainly seen on "server" type not gaming boards. If you want a cpu that can handle a heavy load while multitasking like seen on a server then you will want an AMD Quad. Intel made their mistake thinking "We had the quad core models out first!" until AMD comes out with the ones that actually work! :D
:p :p :p on Intel!
