OverClock Questions

uh, I have posted the top 3 motherboards I would consider, unless you want to spend the full $170 on a motherboard?

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
then ill use the extra cash to go towards my hdd and ill have the hdd too =) i got some money already for it

The DS3 is more than solid enough, the only thing I would consider it lacking is northbridge cooling but a simple fan mount fixes that. I have the S3 and after updating the BIOS from the initial release that is the only complaint I have.

ok what do u reccomend i use for ocing past 3ghz
i want to make that cpu as fsat as possible lol
making the cpu fastster makes my webrowseing and evrything else faster right?

You're not going to notice the difference in web browsing - that's really just a matter of your internet connection. You will notice the difference in any processor intensive tasks, such as gaming, encoding, Folding, etc...

No, not in gaming.

You should OC only if your gonna use it well, not if you 'wanna make it go as fast as you can'. IMO, dont bother.

err for my ignorance here whats "folding"?

my goal is to make it go as fast as possible, cause i use those named and other applications daily. . .

OK then.

Get the ThermalTake Big typhoon, arctic silver 5 and some nice underwear. Then we can overclock the cr*p out of it. Also get a nice stick of GOOD quality RAM and a non generic power supply

Make sure to set the PCI-E bus to a locked 100Mhz before starting. Increase the FSB in increments of 5 Mhz. After each increase run dual instances of prime 95 for a couple of hours. When it starts crashing, freezing, BSODing, etc, go back to the BIOS and increase the vCore BY A NOTCH! REPEAT: BY A NOTCH!

After this go back and run a check. It should be aOK. Keep following this pattern a couple of times.

Lets just say you manage to get the FSB to 350Mhz (well done!) and you wanna push harder. When increasing the voltage does not help, [this is the bit where you need, good, stable RAM] try loosening the RAM timings, increasing MCH voltage, DIMM voltage, etc.

Using this same method you can easily hit an FSB of 4000mHZ. Thats a total clock of 2800Ghz - a 1Ghz overclock.

If you need more help, please ask. Nothing gives me more pleasure than helping a fellow 14-year-old!

your asus mobo is the Intel counterpart of my motherboard ( basicly) and i didnt really have trouble overclocking it thb :) ( besides... if youre going for a aftermarket cooler... dont get Arctic silver 5,.. get Zalman ZM STG1 instead :) In prectical use its better than the AS5, because its applied easyer and way more accurate than the AS5 :)
