I'd say i like (sony, force, and Hp) the most then dell then gateway? sound about right ? if i get the Hp i will be looking into a better videocard/screen

lemme know if i should just take out one or two of the choise's because they are clearly worse and any opinion's are helpfull as long as they have fast/reason behind them

_________________Likes_______________________Dislikes
Sony:__Screen+good quality_______________more expensive
Hp:__Clean Look+cheap for whats in it_____little worse video card /screen mabe ?
Gateway:_ehhh_________________________bad video card
Dell:___cheap+ same features as others______Bad dell experience's
Force:__extra features( see above)________ big bulky looking( see pics)+ more expensive

i'd go with 15'' bit cheaper, depending on brand, but extra money for extras and games.
plus, with portability.

and yes.
Intel lol

yea idk which is cheaper i wanna know which is better and you can fit more into a 17 inch then a 15 but you lose portability so...?

I have a 12" laptop and it's really nice. Of course the whole laptop's smaller so it's also lighter and very easy to carry around. Sometimes I do wish it had a larger, higher resolution screen when I'm doing a lot at once(say programming) but most of the time, I really like the smaller laptops.

One problem with smaller laptops, though, is they do tend to get much more hot than larger laptops. A 15" probably wouldn't be so bad as my 12" or smaller, but it's something to consider...

thats a good peice of information ill keep it in mind but thats not much for which size i should get i cant tell if u support the 15 or the 17 ^^

I think you can get everything you need for college, and gaming in a 15” screen. The 17s are nice but seeing that you will be carrying it around a lot it seems it would be a bit much. I would think that a 17” would be a little more stationary, and then yet still portable if say you were to go on trips or what not. That is just my personal preference to the 15” vs. 17” screens.

512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600 <--- overkill ?
Umm I don’t think that is over kill. ^

256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
But this is under kill ^

The graphics card is something you don’t want to whimp out on, because you can not upgrade it later.

Also this place makes some nice gaming laptops.

Hope this helps you out some…

well those 2 things kinda contradict themself's you said get a 15 inch .... but you cant put a 512 in a 15 inch... even on the site you gave .....any way i could get one with 256 and put in another 256 later? or ?

Unless you plan to use your laptop as a replacement desktop, 17" is too big to be carrying around.

I don't know how customizable the above HP is, but if you get a Dell, for $15 dollars more, you can upgrade the 15" screen to WSXGA+ with TrueLife (1680x1050) instead of the regular WSXGA (1280x800). Try to see if you can obtain the same upgrade with the HP.

The Geforce 7400 is getting outdated and you would be much better getting a Geforce 7600 256. You won't need 512 video ram for the games you want to play anyways. Computer ram is upgradeable, but your video card, and it's ram, you will be stuck with what you get.

ahh see that information is very helpfull, these number's dont mean alot to me i didnt think there was much a diffrence from the 7400 to 7600 as long as they had the same ram right now im intrested in wether i could somehow get a 7600/better ascreen resolution on n hp 15 inch... i know they dont have it on there site but mabe the site hasnt been updated in awile ? would there be any way to get that done ... or is there any other company's around the same level..

I didn't read the whole thread
but in my personal opinion take whatever is lighter and smaller in size

Update : now im leaning tward's the 15 inch..... but im wondering if there's any way i could get an hp /with a better video card( the best video card for a 15 is an 7400... but the 17 comes with a 7600.. any reason ?) or find any other good company's( i would perfer not to get a dell )
gateways arnt high in my book either and vodoo and alienware are over priced

Well I did some research, and it seems that the GeForce 7400 was designed specifically for notebooks. So you may get better battery life with a 7400, but I think you games will play slower it is a 64 bit card, whilst the 7600 is 128bit, still behind the times but a much better improvement.

Sony makes a fine laptop with base price $900

Or this build…
15.4" WXGA TFT with XBRITE-HiColor Technology and MOTION EYE Camera
Core 2 Duo @ 2Ghz
2 gigs of ram
Geforce 7600
100 gigs hard drive
For around $1500

http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INT...ore/en/-/USD/SY_CTO-Start?ProductSKU=M1NBFA06

That’s a nice price and will play the games you want okay. Although if you get real heavy into gaming I would go with the dell that has the GeForce 7900!

EDIT: I just found this.. it's a list of all the notebooks that nVIDIA has their card in...

my laptop is a 17, and its really too big. If you're going to college, youre going to be carrying it everywhere, and while a 17 looks nice now, as soon as that weight hits your shoulder youll be sorry. Id go with a 15.4. but in the end its a personal opinion.

yea thnx thats what i wanted to know.. ima stick with the 15 inch the only problem if finding one now ;) i was thinking hp but it has a shit video card.. so im wanna see if there's any way to replace it ? if i cant then ill go with one of Bramp's idea's sony or mabe a dell.. even though i hate them

Hey, that video card isn't so bad. I just bought a $1,300 Dell laptop (14.1") with an even crappier graphics card (Intel integrated graphics accelerator). :P

ok... that's confusing two people with oposite opinion's ....can anyone support one side or the other with any facts ? what games will the 7400 play ? and can i just request hp put in a higher card ? or is there compadability issue's... or should i just get a diffrent brand

As I stated in my previous post, the 7400 will work with the games you want, but the 7600 will be much faster.

Look below in this benchmark test of the GeForce go 7400 vs. GeForce go 7600

---------3DMark03-3DMark05-3DMark06
Go 7400----4360----1900------800
vs
Go 7600----7800----3400------1900

If you notice the 7600 scores almost double in the tests, this is a result of being 128bit vs. 64bit and having double the pixel pipelines

Here is the link as your proof,

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

I am just suggesting, (and my preference would be) to get the 7600 over the 7400

Hope this clears it up some :)

I am a little surprised there are not others here making suggestions other than saying get a 15 incher. I think it is going to be a toss up of how much you want to spend VS what your going to be getting. Because I really don’t think you will be able to switch the card out in the HP, maybe a more experienced member can comment on this?
