Processor pins came bent..

I just recently bought an AMD 3400+ Socket 939 from Newegg and it came in with 3 pins bent.. I tried to straighten them out as much as I could and I put the processor in the slot.

When I boot up my computer it goes to the screen where it says windows was not shut down properly.. Boot in safe mode or start windows normally (you guys know the screen) when I press start windows normally the screen turns black and the computer restarts itself..

Could this be a problem with the bent pins on the cpu or is that completely unrelated??

Edited: I took the heatsink+fan back off and looked at the pins again and it seems there is actually one missing now but the 3 I had to straighten back up are fine, call customer support?

haha.......figures with AMD, that is why you order Intel, my P4 didn't have pins it had contact plates. I guess they got tired of bent pin complaints.

Anyway, I would call Newegg and trace the problem back from then.

you should have sent it bak straight away...i know that you could just bend them back but if i purchased a new processor and the pins were bent i would want it to be replaced.

Yeah it's a new technology called land socket. The pins are on the motherboard.

Bent pins are very typical. Any processor with pins is susceptible to them being bent... Packaging isn't always the best with processors.

Good luck getting it swapped out. If one is in fact broken off, that might not be covered under their warranty (physical damage). Also realize there are a few gaps between pins.

Is the CPU the only component you've replaced? If you've replaced the motherboard as well without reinstalling or at least repairing Windows, that could be the source of this problem.

This is what my dealio is, I had an old computer I was using to play WoW and CS it had a AMD 2000+ a power supply that didnt fit in the case (too small) but still worked, a hard drive that had a fresh copy of XP on it, a graphics card good enough to run WoW and 1gb of ram.

A friend came along and noticed my computer was crap and he actually had a computer that he wanted to give away because he didnt want to put money into it anymore. The computer he gave me came with a nice motherboard (no processor or ram) some danky hard drives that I took out..

I took the ram, hard drive and my graphics card out of my old computer that was running fine and put it into his.. the ram slots happened to be the same 184-pin.. So the only thing I needed was a processor.

My blame still goes on that 1 missing pin but I dunno..

there isn't anything wrong with amd processors and it would be wrong for you to suggest otherwise.

*edit*...looking at your name i should have just ignored your post. fanboyism at its best.

I've built probably about 6 amd machines within the past year, with no problems. Had friend who had the bent pin problem, but new egg took the processor back and refunded him 100%

Built an intel machine last year, had more problems with that thing than any other computer.

It really just depends on the situation.

i thought the pins were bent now there is a pin missing, put it back in the packaging call newegg that is if that is where u ordered it, tell them that it came with bent pins and missing pin and see what they will do
