hey,

i got a FX5200 128mb video card. if i got a 7600Gs 256mb, will it make a difference with a 2.6ghz CPU and 1gb of ram? ( gettin 2 gigs later on in life ).

i saw a 7600gs in the shops for about $140AU. is it worth it?

i hate running games on low so it doesnt lag.

i play games like :

WoW
Need for speed games ( all )

and stuff like that, that have advanced graphics.

so yea.. help:eek:

The 7600GS is a decent card, but it also depends on your other computer specs.

You say that you have a 2.6Ghz processor, but that doesnt tell us much. What type of processor is it?

I don't think it's that good. I doubt it'd play things on High. Maybe things like COD but nothing newer.

It's better then that, but its not a high-end video card. It plays CoD2 on medium, CSS on high, etc. It's a decent card, on par with an x800/x850 series.

Since you have a Pentium 4 @ 2.6Ghz, it's going to hold you back as well. I'd say that a 7600GS may even be a bit too high-end for it, but it should work fairly well without bottlenecking too much.

i have 2 options.

1) new video card
2) New 3+ ghz CPU

which one should i get? i can get either for a descent price.

You've got to be kidding, right!?

The X850 is miles better :P
I was referring mainly towards the x800 series, but some x850's arent as good. And pure spec wise, the x800/x850 is better, but not in real world games.

Here are a few benchmarks. The x800XT performs better most of the time, but not too much better. The point was that the 7600GS isnt that horrible of a card as you were making it seem :)

I wasn't trying to say it was a horrible card, just that it may not play things on hight settings. I see what you mean though :)

Agreed, it isn't a bad card for the price you can get it :P

I think a better GFX would be more use than a CPU, You'd notice more of a difference.

7600GS should play WoW on Max setting, and all need for speed games should run on medium or high settings with no problem

I would def go with the new video card if you're talking about a 3ghz+ pentium 4, as P4's suck.

Video card +1

What are you talking about? They BOTH are videos cards, its just one lower budget range and the other borderline budget and mainstream. If you have the cash, I would definitely recommend you getting the 7600GS. In general I would get the most expensive card I can afford provided that its performance to price ratio is worth it. The FX5200 is a really low-end card, but that is not saying it can't play games, I have had one for about 6-8 months and I have finished Doom 3 and Half life 2 with it. Would I have enjoyed those games more if I used my current 7900GT, definitely, but with a FX5200 those games were definitely playable on low settings.

So it all comes down to your budget, if you can afford eyecandy, then you wouldn't be getting the likes of the FX5200, or even the 7600GS for that matter. Although the 7600GS is a superior card to the FX5200, it will still lag in modern games such as Supreme Commander on Medium settings.

My 6600 runs Supreme Commander at medium settings, and I have some of the settings on high. It lags only when there are a lot of units.

So, I assume that 7600GS should run it much better than my card. Supreme Commander also depends greatly on the CPU and Ram. So, if you have a low-end CPU then the game might lag even if you have high-end GPU

Yeah, of course the 7600GS is better hands down no match man. The 7600GS is a full two generations newer than the 5200.
