Hi, I have been searching for hours for a solution to my problem.
First off, I believe the specs to my computer will be useful. If you require others I'll see if I can get them.
Dell Inspiron 9300
2gigs ddr2 ram (Bestbuy said it was compatible. I don't remember brand name etc and have lost the packaging).
256mb dedicated Graphics card (nVidia Go 6800 if I recall correctly)
1.73 ghz Pentium M processor
17inch Monitor
80 gig (7200 rpm I think) Hard drive.
Now, I'll get to the problem. My computer has been emitting 1 short (loud) beep followed by and immediate shutdown (sort of). Everything appears to be off and the computer is silent but the num-lock key light stays lit for another minute or two. This will usually happen while playing World Of Warcraft, how ever it happened once while tpying up a paper for school.
I have looked and looked but there is nothing online about 1 short beep followed by shutdown. I have a nasty feeling my CPU may be overheating but I am hoping that is not it.
Things I have done.
I have tried running speed fan, but my fans do not show up in the proggram.
I have run complete virus scans with AVG and Avast (both had been updated right before the scan).
I ran Adware SE home and nothing serious turned up, just a low risk cookie which I went in and manually removed.
I also ran a Spyware Terminator test and nothing turned up there and the same with Spybot.
I used Abexo's Free Registry cleaner and that did not help.
I also ran CCleaner (just a shot in the dark).
In addition I use Comodo Firewalla and my internet is through a firewalled router so I THINK I can safely say it is not a virus, however I am now clueless which is why I am here.
I am fairly computer savvy. I mean I don't know all the technical terms, but I can get around the computer quite well and am fairly comfortable in working on my computer on my own. I just need help! Also I am just a poor highschool student so I would like to avoid any costly fixes.
Any advice and ideas are appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
